Mechanical Engineering

Mechanical Engineering

Now in its fourth edition Mechanical Engineering has been revised to be in line with the technical qualifications of the new engineering apprenticeship standards at Level 3. In addition four new chapters are included that cover static and dynamic engineering systems fluid systems and additive manufacturing. The text covers eight units of the BTEC L3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Technical Knowledge qualification as well as some content in the BTEC National Engineering Syllabus and BTEC L3 Aerospace and Aviation Engineering specialist qualifications. It also covers some of the content in the EAL L3 Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Development Technical Knowledge qualification. To enhance learning mathematical theory is backed up with numerous examples to work through. There are also activities for students to complete out of the classroom that help put the theory into context. Test your knowledge quizzes throughout the text enable students to test their understanding while end of unit review questions are helpful for exam revision and course work. This book is ideal for students undertaking Level 3 courses in engineering although students undertaking Level 4 engineering courses will also find the content of the book useful to their studies. Alan Darbyshire is a retired Further Education lecturer and experienced textbook author for Intermediate GNVQ and AVCE. He drafted several of the mechanical engineering units for the BTEC National specifications. Charles Gibson completed an aeronautical mechanical engineering apprenticeship and then spent 16 years in the Royal Navy maintaining military helicopters before retiring from the military in 2008. Since then he has worked in Further Education as the Head of Aeronautical Engineering at City of Bristol College where he also taught on several programmes including BTECs in Aeronautical Engineering and Foundation Degrees. In 2013 he transferred to Yeovil College where he continues to teach on engineering programmes from Level 2 to Level 5. He has also been involved in the writing of engineering technical knowledge qualifications for several engineering apprenticeship standards.

Electrical Engineering Fundamentals

Many in their quest for knowledge in engineering find typical textbooks intimidating. Perhaps due to an extensive amount of physics theory an overwhelming barrage of math and not enough practical application of the engineering principles laws and equations. Therein lies the difference between this text and those voluminous and daunting conventional university engineering textbooks. This text leads the reader into more complex and abstract content after explaining the electrical engineering concepts and principles in an easy to understand fashion supported by analogies borrowed from day-to-day examples and other engineering disciplines. Many complex electrical engineering concepts for example power factor are examined from multiple perspectives aided by diagrams illustrations and examples that the reader can easily relate to. Throughout this book the reader will gain a clear and strong grasp of electrical engineering fundamentals and a better understanding of electrical engineering terms concepts principles laws analytical techniques solution strategies and computational techniques. The reader will also develop the ability to communicate with professional electrical engineers controls engineers and electricians on their wavelength with greater confidence. Study of this book can help develop skills and preparation necessary for succeeding in the electrical engineering portion of various certification and licensure exams including Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) Professional Engineering (PE) Certified Energy Manager (CEM) and many other trade certification tests. This text can serve as a compact and simplified electrical engineering desk reference. This book provides a brief introduction to the NEC® the Arc-Flash Code and a better understanding of electrical energy and associated cost. If you need to gain a better understanding of myriad battery alternatives available in the market their strengths and weaknesses and how batteries compare with capacitors as energy storage devices this book can be a starting point. This book is ideal for engineers engineering students facility managers engineering managers program/project managers and other executives who do not possess a current working knowledge of electrical engineering. Because of the simple explanations analogies and practical examples employed by the author this book serves as an excellent learning tool for non-engineers technical writers attorneys electrical sales professionals energy professionals electrical equipment procurement agents construction managers facility managers and maintenance managers.

Engineering Dynamics Fundamentals and Applications

Engineering Dynamics Fundamentals and Applications

This textbook is intended for the first course of engineering dynamics for undergraduate students. Engineering dynamics is a rigorous topic that typically involves the intensive use of vector mathematics and calculus. This book however uses plain language with less vector mathematics and calculus to introduce these topics of mathematics to students with a high school physics background. Numerous practical examples are provided with their step-by-step worked out solutions as well as case studies to reflect the interests of new engineering and applied engineering students. The topics covered in the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination are presented throughout the text. It also includes roadway dynamics to incorporate engineering dynamics and transportation engineering for civil engineering. Features: Discusses theory using easy-to-understand language with less vector mathematics and calculus Includes practical case studies and numerous realistic step-by-step solved examples Includes exercise problems for students’ practice Provides numerous sample examples related to the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam Includes a solutions manual and PowerPoint slides for adopting instructors Engineering Dynamics: Fundamentals and Applications serves as a useful resource for students across several engineering degree programs such as civil mechanical aerospace automotive chemical and electrical engineering. It is also appropriate for engineering technology and applied science students as well. | Engineering Dynamics Fundamentals and Applications

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Volume 2: Applications of Rock Mechanics - Rock Engineering

Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Volume 2: Applications of Rock Mechanics - Rock Engineering

The two-volume set Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering is concerned with the application of the principles of mechanics to physical chemical and electro-magnetic processes in the upper-most layers of the earth and the design and construction of the rock structures associated with civil engineering and exploitation or extraction of natural resources in mining and petroleum engineering. Volume 2 Applications of Rock Mechanics – Rock Engineering discusses the applications of rock mechanics to engineering structures in/on rock rock excavation techniques and in-situ monitoring techniques giving some specific examples. The dynamic aspects associated with the science of earthquakes and their effect on rock structures and the characteristics of vibrations induced by machinery blasting and impacts as well as measuring techniques are described. Furthermore the degradation and maintenance processes in rock engineering are explained. Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering is intended to be a fundamental resource for younger generations and newcomers and a reference book for experts specialized in Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering and associated with the fields of mining civil and petroleum engineering engineering geology and/or specialized in Geophysics and concerned with earthquake science and engineering. | Rock Mechanics and Rock Engineering Volume 2: Applications of Rock Mechanics - Rock Engineering
