Find a sunny spot in the border or position your pot in the sun. Add granular feed to the soil or compost and water regularly to establish. Make sure to direct your can or hose to the bottom of the plant and really soak down to the roots. If your Dahlia has large flowers, you may need to put stakes in the ground, one per stem and tie the stems to the posts to support the weight of the flower. As flowers fade, cut back stems to a leaf joint, as this will encourage the plant to keep producing new buds. At the end of the season you can leave the Dahlia tuber in the ground if they are planted in a very free draining position and you live in a warmer part of the UK. You will need to cover with at least 6 inches of mulch like bark chippings etc. You can also dig the tuber up, shake of excess soil and place in a dark, dry & cool place for the winter. Surround them with dry material like sand and replant in the ground once there is no risk of frost the next spring.

Globeflowers are relatively low maintenance provided the soil is kept moist and does not dry out, they are happiest in wet or boggy soil in sun or shade. Water regularly, especially during warmer periods. Trollius are very thirsty so you will not overwater them, just make sure they don’t dry out. Remove faded flowers to prolong flowering and cut back the faded flowers and foliage to ground level in autumn once flowering has finished. Divide every three to four years, in the spring, to maintain vigour.

Zantedeschia or Calla Lilies are not cold hardy so should be grown indoors at times of the year when the temperature is regularly below 10C. In the UK it’s probably best to grow these in a container where they can be easily moved to suit the needs of the plant. When growing indoors they prefer a position with lots of natural light, but not too much direct sunlight. Make sure you keep them well watered during the summer, not allowing the soil to dry out, but they will not like being sat in water for prolonged periods. During the summer they can be moved outside to a position that gets plenty of light, but is sheltered from wind and the midday sun. Avoid planting in full shade, but they will tolerate partial shade. During the flowering season feed every 3 – 4 weeks with a liquid fertiliser, something like a liquid tomato fertiliser is perfect. Remove the leaves at soil level once they have died. If you’ve grown your Lily in a pot, you can simply move the pot inside once the temperature drops and then once it goes dormant (November) move it to a dark spot until the spring and do not water. In spring repot your Calla Lily into fresh compost.
