Broken Age is an adventure game created by Double Fine studio, which has such games as Brutal Legend and Stacking. The founder and leader of the band is Tim Schafer, co-author of many classic representatives of the genre - from Day of Tentacle to Grim Fandango. Schafer dreamed of returning to his favorite genre and made this dream come true thanks to Kickstarter. Several million dollars of funds have been raised in the event devoted to Broken Age. It is worth noting that originally Broken Age was released in the form of two separate episodes.
The game consists of two stories of young people, which seemingly only have a theme: the desire to break out of the surrounding reality and change their own world. The first is Vella, an inhabitant of a bakery village destined to die in the monster's mouth. This ritual death, guaranteeing the safety of the town, is considered a privilege, but the girl would rather fight the beast. Shay is a boy who lives alone on a spaceship and is being looked after by an on-board computer. The protagonist discovers that something strange is happening on board.
From the gameplay side, Broken Age is a classic adventure game in which we traverse the screens in search of characters and items. The game is very easy to use - just click on a given object or character to hear the characters' comments or start a dialogue. Of course, to complete the adventure, you need to solve some relatively simple puzzles and combine some facts. The variety is the fact that we can change the current character at any time - the stories of Shay and Vela can be learned in any order. At one point in the plot, the fates of a boy and a girl intertwine in surprising circumstances. On this basis, the authors have built several more difficult puzzles that require the cooperation of both protagonists.
Double Fine studio put a lot of work and creativity into making Broken Age stand out from other adventure games. The game is kept in an interesting style and you can like it even with relatively simple animations. The authors often surprise with crazy ideas for characters, locations and solutions to puzzles. Undoubtedly, a great advantage is the cast that took part in the voice recordings - Vella was played by Masasa Moyo, and Shay - by Elijah Wood. The other roles were helped by, among others, Jennifer Hale and Jack Black.
