Hernö Artisan Ten Gin Hernö is de eerste toegewijde gin-distilleerderij in Zweden en is gevestigd in Dala aan de hoge kust van Zweden. Ze produceren alleen biologische, ambachtelijke gins, die zijn geïnspireerd op de natuurlijke schoonheid van Zweden. In 2019 lanceerde Hernö hun serie Interpretations by Hernö. Dit is een serie gins voor verzamelaars die elk een bijzonder creatieve draai hebben. Hun Artisan Ten gin is de release van 2021, waarvan er slechts 1.921 flessen zijn gemaakt. Dit is bijzonder, aangezien 2021 ook de 10e verjaardag van Hernö markeerde. Dit is een echt eerbetoon aan Dala (hun thuisstad) en een "decennium van vreugde creërende gin". Dit onderscheidt zich doordat het is gerijpt op berkenvaten. Dit is een gin die zijn jeneverbes niet verbergt! Het is krachtig zowel in de neus als in het vroege gehemelte, maar vervaagt in duidelijke houtachtige tonen. Deze worden perfect uitgebalanceerd door een verfijnde bloemenzoetheid die afkomstig is van zowel berken als moerasspirea. Meer van Hernö Perfect Serve Dit is echt een speciale gin, en we raden ten zeerste aan om ervan te genieten zoals het bedoeld was. Hernö Old Tom Gin Based in Dala (between Stockholm and Gothenburg) in Sweden, Hernö Gin is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden. They use hand hammered copper stills (which they have named Kierstin and Marit) to craft multi-award winning organic gins from natural botanicals. For their Hernö Old Tom Gin they use their distilled gin (Hernö Gin) as the base, and add an extra amount of Meadowsweet in the distillation. After diluting to just the right abv, they add just a touch of sugar. This sweetening of the gin isn't purely to add sweetness (of course it does do that), but it assists in livening the botanicals in the gin even further. Floral notes are lifted, a wider array of juniper is released and it makes the gin even smoother in the mouth. The flavour and aroma profile of this gin really is something quite special. On the nose you are greeted by a really full bodied aroma with woody spice. This follows up with a really bright, almost juicy juniper note and delicate florals. As mentioned, its a really smooth gin in the mouth. There is a sweetness, but it is definitely not over-powering, delicately light, and it brings botanical notes to the fore. A delicious crisp juniper comes through, enhanced with pine flowers. Through to the finish, this develops into more of the floral sweetness with woody spice notes, with the juniper present (but cerrtainly not overpowering) all the way to the end.  A deliciously different take on a traditional Old Tom gin made for the 21st Century. Read more about Hernö Perfect Serve Having recently won the IWSC World's best Gin & Tonic in conjunction with Double Dutch Indian Tonic, we would definitely recommend this as a perfect serve. Somewhat unusually, we would recommend this one drunk a little stronger though, with the sweetness of the gin allowing this to be enjoyed this way. In a glass filles with large cubes of ice and 50ml of the gin, slowly pour in 100ml of the tonic. Garnish with a slice of lemon, or lemon zest.

Hernö Sipping Gin 2021 1.5 Brännland Ice Cider Cask Hernö is de eerste toegewijde gin-distilleerderij in Zweden en is gevestigd in Dala aan de hoge kust van Zweden. Ze produceren alleen biologische, ambachtelijke gins, die zijn geïnspireerd op de natuurlijke schoonheid van Zweden. De Hernö Sipping gin-serie van is in 2016 gestart als een manier om de horeca aan de Hoge Kust van Zweden te helpen versterken. Hoewel het een prachtig gebied is, biedt het unieke uitdagingen voor bedrijven die daar gevestigd zijn. Van extreme winterse weersomstandigheden tot lange afstanden, gecombineerd met een dunbevolkt gebied. In een poging om bezoekers naar het High Coast Whisky Festival en Hernö Gin Open House te lokken, kwam Jon Hillgren (Master Distiller) op het idee van bottelingen in beperkte oplage. Deze zouden in de eerste plaats bestemd zijn voor de aanwezigen van de evenementen. De rest zou dan worden verkocht via de Zweedse slijterijen (Systembolaget). Een nog kleiner aantal werd ook beschikbaar gesteld voor export. Nu in hun vijfde jaar, en vijfde release, heeft editie 1.5 een gelimiteerde release van 1450 flessen (waarvan 1.000 exclusief voor de Zweedse markt). Deze releases zijn snel populair gebleken en worden collector's editions. Dus pak een fles terwijl je kunt! Met deze editie namen ze hun klassieke (en veel bekroonde) Hernö Gin en lieten deze 60 dagen rijpen in vaten die voorheen Brännland Ice Cider bevatten. Barrique. Voordien kwamen deze vaten uit de Franse wijnstreek Sauternes. Het is deze vatrijping die de gin zijn heerlijke gouden kleur geeft. Op de neus is er een krachtig aroma van eikenhout, dat wordt vergezeld door jeneverbes, bloemige Hebal-tonen van moerasspirea en een diepe ondertoon van zure groene appelschil. De smaken hebben een sterke invloed van zowel jeneverbes als eik. Deze zijn echter in balans met moerasspirea, zwarte peper en een vleugje citrus. Deze smelten allemaal perfect samen en balanceren elkaar. Naarmate de gin zijn afdronk nadert, komt zijn droogheid door met kruiden, de jeneverbes komt ook weer naar voren en wordt vergezeld door een vleugje vanille. Meer van Hernö Perfect Serve Dit is echt een speciale gin, en we raden ten zeerste aan om ervan te genieten zoals het bedoeld was. Hernö Navy Strength Gin Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. To make their Navy Strength gin, Hernö use the same distilled gin as Hernö Gin. However, they only distill it to an abv of 57%. This leads to a difference in aroma and taste, having an overall richer flavour with bolder juniper, coriander and citrus. On the nose the juniper is strong, and immediately greets you. This follows with citrus and fresh peppery notes. On the palate, you're again greeted initially with a crip piney juniper flavour. This is joined by spicy citrus, and a hint of spring floral notes. The finish retains the spice and pepper, leaving a deliciously smooth and warm feeling in the mouth. It also holds its own really well in cocktails, and works particularly well in a Martinez.

Hernö Dalarosso 2022 Gin 50cl

Hernö Dalarosso 2022 Gin Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. In 2019 Hernö launched their Interpretations by Hernö series. This is a collectors series of gins each of which have a particularly creative twist. Their Dalarosso gin was released in 2022 and is their sixth edition from the interpretations series. Only 1,084 bottles were made. Having an interest in vermouth (after all, gin and vermouth have a perfect complimentary existence), Hernö travelled to the Italian City of Turin. Here they met with Giancarlo Mancino from Mancino Vermouth.  Their special Mancino Vermouth Vecchio is the product of ageing Mancino Vermouth di Torino Rosso Amaranto in Italian oak barrels for twelve months. This results in a rich, darkh vermouth with notes of cherry, honey, raisins, orange zest and licorice.  Using these special barrels, Hernö rest their Dry Gin in these barrels for 90 days, during which time they absorb elements or aroma and flavour from the cask. Interesting Fact: The label is created by Härnösand artist Hans Forsell. The oak barrel that forms the open portal rests on numbers where 38 symbolizes the number of spices used in Mancino Vermouth, 12 the number of months the vermouth was stored in the oak barrel and 90 the number of days the gin was stored in the same barrel After its 90 days in the cask, the gin takes on a whole different appeal. The aroma retains its powerful piney juniper and floral notes, but is also joined by oak and dried fruits. The taste mirrors the aroma, with plenty of juniper flavours. However these are beautifully rounded out by a sweetness from dried fruits, oak and an intruiging floral note. It finishes with spices which don't overpower, but linger perfectly leading to a dry finish. More from Hernö Perfect Serve This is delicious sipped neat over ice. However it also works well with a neutral tonic, or in a cocktail. How about trying a Dalarosso Martinez Cocktail? In a mixing glass with a few cubes of ice add 60 ml Hernö Dalarosso Dry Gin, 5 ml Luxardo Maraschino, 2 drops brine (try using from a jar of olives) and 1 splash of Angostura Bitter. Stir well then strain into a chilled cocktail glass, and serve with a twist of grapefruit zest.

Dit is een soepele en goed afgeronde London dry gin, en is de meest bekroonde gin in Europa, en met een goede reden! In de neus heeft het een duidelijk jeneverbesaroma, dat wordt afgerond met citrustonen, maar ook een bloemige complexiteit heeft. Een soepele gin, omhult de mond en heeft een milde smaak van koriander. Dit smelt al snel in een zachte zoetheid die combineert met vanille en cassiabast. Terwijl de smaken wegsmelten, resulteert de afdronk in een aanhoudende citrus- en jeneverbessmaak met slechts een milde hint van zwarte peper. Meer van Hernö Perfect Serve Bijzonder soepel en goed in de mond, dit is een gin waarvan je kunt genieten met een slokje. Maar ook als longdrink in een gin & tonic doet hij het goed. We raden een neutrale tonic aan, zoals Franklin & Sons Natural Tonic Water. Giet 50 ml van de gin in een groot glas gevuld met ijs en voeg 150 - 200 ml tonic naar keuze toe. Garneer met een schijfje citroen.

Hernö Sipping Gin 2022 1.6 Caves Santa Maria Port Cask Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. The Hernö Sipping gin series from was started in 2016 as a way to help strengthen the hospitality industry in the High Coast of Sweden. Whilst a beautiful area - it offers unique challenges to business located there. From the winter weather extremes to the long distances, combined with a sparsley populated region. In an attempt to attract visitors to the High Coast Whisky Festival and Hernö Gin Open House, Jon Hillgren (Master Distiller) struck on the idea of limited edition bottlings. These would be primarily to the attendees of the events. Any remaining would then be sold through the Swedish liquor stores (Systembolaget). An even smaller number were also made available for export. Now in their sixth year, and sixth release, edition 1.6 has a limited release of 1003 bottles. These releases have fast proved popular, and become collectors editions. So grab a bottle whilst you can! With this edition they took their classic (and much awarded) Hernö Old Tom Gin and matured it for 60 days in casks which previously held Caves Santa Maria Port. Hernö felt this amount of time ensured the perfect balance between port and gin. The botanicals used in their base Old Tom gin haven't changed, and are Juniper berries, coriander seeds, black pepper, cassia bark, vanilla, lingonberries, meadowsweet and lemon peel. On the nose the oak from the casks comes through initially, which is followed by floral notes. These join with almond, buttery caramel and vanilla. Behind this lies a gentle, but noticeable piney juniper. The flavour initially is both floral and juniper forward, which gives a delicious balance on the palate. As the drink developes a nuttiness and rich fruit flavour of dates come through. A little peppery spice balances against a delicate sweetness. The finish brings forward citrus notes, meadowsweet and juniper - and ends with a lingering spicy oakiness. More from Hernö Perfect Serve This is truly a special gin, and one we highly recommend enjoyed as it was designed to be. Take a rocks glass and add a large ice cube, and complete with 50ml of the gin. No garnish needed with this one! Sip, and enjoy slowly. It however does also work in the mix, and is delicious as a longer drink when mixed with sparkling lemonade. Try 60ml of the gin over ice and fill the glass with the lemonade. Garnish with a lemon wedge.

They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. This is a smooth and well rounded London dry gin, and is the most awarded gin in Europe, and for good reason! On the nose it has a definite juniper aroma, which is rounded out with citrus notes but also has a floral complexity to it. A smooth gin, it coats the mouth, and has a mild taste of coriander. This soon melts into a mellow sweetness which combines with vanilla and cassia bark. As the flavours melt away, the finish results in a lingering citrus and juniper taste with just a mild hint of black pepper. More from Hernö Perfect Serve Particularly smooth, and coating the mouth well this is a gin which can be enjoyed sipped. However it also works well as a long drink in a gin & tonic. We recommend a neutral tonic, such as Franklin & Sons Natural Tonic Water. Pour 50ml of the gin into a large glass filled with ice, and add 150 - 200ml of your chosen tonic. Garnish with a slice of lemon.

Hernö Juniper Cask Gin Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. Their Juniper Cask Gin is the first in the world to be matured on juniper wood casks. Using the same distilled gin as their signature Hernö Gin, they dilute it to 47% ABV. This is then matured for 30 days in juniper wood casks. This time in the casks maturing gives an intense juniper note which is finished with a long and harmonious hint of citrus peel. On the nose this gin really gives across a fresh woodiness, with pine from juniper. Behind this ligers soft citrus blossom. In the mouth it has a thick texture, which coats the mouth leaving it a little dry. A heavy juniper flavour, and herbal pepper entice the tongue before giving way to a mild vanilla sweetness. The finish brings a littler citrus and floral notes from coriander. The finish is long with juniper dominating. This realy needs a neutral tonic such as Three Cents Tonic water to ensure the nuances of this gin can be enjoyed. Pour 50ml into a glass filled with ice and top up with 150ml of the tonic. Hun Juniper Cask Gin is de eerste ter wereld die op jeneverbeshouten vaten is gerijpt. Met dezelfde gedistilleerde gin als hun kenmerkende Hernö Gin, verdunnen ze deze tot 47% ABV. Deze rijpt vervolgens 30 dagen in jeneverbeshouten vaten. Deze keer in de vaten geeft de rijping een intense jeneverbesnoot die wordt afgewerkt met een lange en harmonieuze hint van citrusschil. In de neus geeft deze gin echt een frisse houtsmaak, met dennen van jeneverbes. Daarachter schuilt zachte citrusbloesem. In de mond heeft het een dikke textuur, die de mond bedekt en een beetje droog maakt. Een zware jeneverbessmaak en kruidenpeper verleiden de tong voordat ze plaats maken voor een milde vanillezoetheid. De afdronk brengt wat citrus- en bloemige noten van koriander. Dit heeft echt een neutrale tonic nodig zoals Three Cents Tonic water om ervoor te zorgen dat de nuances van deze gin kunnen worden genoten. Hernö Botany Bay Dry Gin Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. In 2019 Hernö launched their Interpretations by Hernö series. This is a collectors series of gins each of which have a particularly creative twist. Their Botany Bay Dry gin is from 2020 and is their third release. This is particularly special, as it is a collaboration with another of our favourite distilleries - Four Pillars from Australia (which also hints at the reason for the name!). The botanicals in this gin are a marriage of classic gin botanicals, and those particular to both Sweden and Australia. They are: Juniper, Coriander, Lemon Myrtle, Lemon Peel, Lingonberries, Meadowsweet, Tasmanian Pepperberries and Wattleseed. On the nose sweet citrusy notes come through along with fresh eucalyptus, hints of crispbread and lots of juniper. The palate has plenty of juniper, which like with the aroma is supported with candied citrus and eucalyptus. Soft pink pepper, and a further floral pepperiness excite the mouth. Its finish is surprisingly nutty, with hints of chocolate and lemon. The Tasmanian pepper leaves the mouth slighty numb. More from Hernö Perfect Serve Whilst this makes a deliciously intruiging Gin & Tonic, we also liked this in one of Hernö's suggested serves - the Hernö 'Lagom Word' Cocktail (their take on the Last word cocktail). In a cocktail shaker filled with ice add 20ml of Hernö Botany Bay Dry Gin, 20ml of Green Chartreuse, 20ml of Luxardo Maraschino and 20ml of lime juice. Shake well and strain in to a chilled tumbler glass with fresh ice. Top with approx 60ml of Soda Water.

Hernö High Coast Terroir Gin 2018 Hernö is the first dedicated gin distillery in Sweden, and is located in Dala on the high coast of Sweden. They only produce organic, artisanal gins, which are inspired by the natural beauty of Sweden. In 2016 Hernö launched their High Coast Terroir series. Each year they select different botanicals sourced from the High Coast of Sweden (to the north of Stockholm, on the Gulf of Bothnia).  For their 2018 edition, they differed their base spirit as well as the botanicals chosen. In this edition their bases partially comes from a malt base produced by one of their neighbours, the Lockeby Brewery. The botanicals from the High Coast that they used in this edition are: Elderflower, Juniper, Rowan Berries and Spruce Shoots. The resulting gin offers an aroma which is crisp, with the juniper coming through first, followed by an array of floral notes. There is a base note from the malt, and fresh citrus tones. On the palate there is a definite floral complexity, which blends with the juniper, somewhat softening it. The rowan lends a freshness to it. As the flavours develop in the mouth the elderflower comes forward, with a little warmth with peppery notes. The spruce adds a gentle sweetness. Overall this is a pleasure on the taste buds, with the flavours being balanced perfectly. Take a rocks glass and add a large ice cube, and complete with 50ml of the gin. No garnish needed with this one!  However if you like your drinks longer, it makes an equally delicious Gin & Tonic. Take a large glass filled with ice and add 50ml of the gin. Gently pour over 150ml of your chosen tonic (we liked this with East Imperial Tonic Water). Garnish with a few juniper berries.

Now in their third year, and third release, edition 1.3 has a limited release of 1904 bottles. 1600 of these exclusively for the Swedish market. These releases have fast proved popular, and become collectors editions. So grab a bottle whilst you can! With this edition they took their classic (and much awarded) Hernö Gin and matured it in casks which previously held Ardbeg whisky. The sipping series was designed, as the name would suggest to be enjoyed neat over ice. This edition has a light straw colour to it, which has come from the cask.  The aroma has prominent piney juniper notes, with a hint of smokiness and enticing, elegant floral aomas and a delicate hint of vanilla. When sipped, this gin reallty comes into its own. Enticingly smooth, it has a mouth-coating creaminess to it. There is a savouriness to the gin, with juniper coming through right at the start and is joined with a hint of oaky pepper. As the gin warms in the mouth, pear, a touch of toffee apple and a peaty smokiness come through as well. The flavours linger deliciously on the palate, and finish with a tingly hint of salt on the tongue.
