Picea Omorika Serbian Spruce Bosnian Spruce for Sale Online

Picea Omorika Serbian Spruce Bosnian Spruce for Sale Online

Picea omorika, Serbian Spruce or Bosnian SpruceThe Picea Omorika, also called the Serbian Spruce or the Bosnian Spruce, is a graceful evergreen conifer that can grow to a height up to 40 metres. That said, it grows at a relatively slow rate of just 30 to 60 centimeters per year. The hardy Bosnian Spruce is native to the Tara Mountains which are located in West Serbia. In its native habitat, it grows mostly on the mountain's north facing slopes signifying its hardiness. Picea Omorika was first discovered in 1875 and quickly gained popularity in horticulture use. From the 1880s onward, the Serbian Spruce has been a valued landscape addition. In terms of growth habit, it has an attractive crown which is narrowly conical to columnar with short branches with a downward curve. The Serbian Spruce is an evergreen conifer and keeps its needles all year round. It grows naturally in a narrow, pyramid fashion and rarely, if ever, requires any pruning. The needles measure 2.5 centimeters in length. Each needle is flat and bright green. The underside of the needle has two distinctive white stripes. The needles are connected to the main stem by a tiny pulvinus. The Bosnian Spruce produces male and female flowers on the same tree. The flowers are inconspicuous. After flowering, it develops long ovate-shaped cones that measure approximately 5 centimeters. The decorative cones appear a purple and change to a reddish-brown as they mature.Plant the Picea omorika in full sun for best growth. It will tolerate partial shade but must have at least four hours of sun per day. The tree grows well in, loamy, sandy, or clay soils. Ideally, it prefers acidic soil conditions. Avoid planting the tree in overly moist or boggy soil. It grows best when the soil is allowed to dry out between waterings. Despite its mountain origins, the Serbian Spruce tolerates urban pollution. However, it does not do well when exposed to road salt.Picea omarika is a popular living Christmas tree choice. Many people keep the tree in a pot and after the holidays, they plant it directly in the garden where it makes an ideal specimen tree. It was awarded the prestigious Award of Garden Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society. Many successful cultivars such as the Picea omorika Nana have been produced from the Picea omorika.

Pinus Pinea. Italian Stone Pine Nut Tree for sale London UK

Pinus Pinea. Italian Stone Pine Nut Tree for sale London UK

Pinus Pinea or Stone Pine is also known as the Italian Stone Pine, Umbrella Pine or Pine Nut Tree. These mature Pinus Pinea specimens have been grown and shaped as full stardard trees with long, clear stems and a lovely, rounded canopy on top. Pinus Pinea Full Standard trees can be used for above fence screening or as stand-alone ornamental specimens. The Pinus Pinea is a lovely conifer tree that naturally features a rounded, broad flattened umbrella-like canopy. It has a tall spreading habit with twisted, glossy green needle-like, soft leaves. The canopy spread can be kept in check with regular clipping. In the Roman times, Italian stone pines were widely grown for their deliciously edible pine nuts which were a staple in most Roman soldiers’ diets. Relatively fast growing, the tree often grows 1 meter per year. The tree will reach full maturity between 20 to 30 years old.Once established, the Pinus Pinea Full Standard tree requires only minimal care to thrive and keep its shape. It is highly drought tolerant and can withstand salt spray in coastal regions. Plant the Italian stone pine in full sun for best growth results. It prefers a planting location with well-draining soil. The tree grows best in acidic soil but will withstand alkaline soil. It grows well in coastal areas because it doesn’t mind salt spray. Italian Stone Pine trees produce an abundance of bright green stiff needles that measure up to 15 centimetres in length. The needles appear in twisted bundles. The bluish-grey cones of the tree measure about 15 centimetres in length and are heavy. They remain tightly closed for about three years before opening to disperse their seeds.Pinus Pinea Full Standard has a stand-out showy trunk, enhanced by the full standard clear stem shape of these specimens. The trunk features an orange hue with large plates that measure about 33 centimetres in length. They are showcased by deep dark fissures. The plates provide visual interest on the tree. The Italian stone pine does tolerate pruning well, making it a good candidate for growing as a full standard tree. It requires minimal pruning once per year to keep its shape. Ideally, pruning should take place in the winter months.Statuesque and interesting year round, the Italian Stone Pine full standard tree makes an ideal garden focal point. It grows well in urban settings and can be grown as a street tree. This hardy Pine Nut tree is just one of the varieties in our huge collection of specialist conifers for sale at Paramount Plants in North London.

Hedging Screens. Evergreen Portuguese Laurel Instant Screen

Hedging Screens. Evergreen Portuguese Laurel Instant Screen

Portuguese Laurel Hedging ScreensPortuguese Laurel (Latin name Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia) remains one of our most popular evergreen hedging choices, well suited to growing throughout Britain and Ireland. These particular Portuguese Laurel plants have been nurtured and grown in rows of 5 or 6 plants and have been trained on a bamboo frame to maximise the screening effect. We refer to them as Instant Hedging Screens as they provide immediate privacy. These instant hedging screens are perfect when you want an instant hedging screen in a hurry. They are also very useful for narrow spaces as the row of plants is not overly wide.Practical and efficient, these Portuguese Laurel Hedging Screens have a compact, upright growth habit that quickly produces an instant formal hedge. Portuguese Laurel grows at a rapid rate of approximately 30 to 60 centimetres or more per year. Portuguese Laurel Hedging Screens only require clipping once per year, ideally in the month of June. When not regularly pruned, the hardy and rapid growth of the hedging screen will reach a height of 18 meters relatively quickly.Portuguese Laurel Hedging is beloved for its deep, dark evergreen narrow leaves that stand out in stark contrast to the stems which are a bright pinkish-red. In the month of June, the Portuguese laurel will produce an abundance of fragrant yellowish-white flowers on flower spikes which many people compare to the aroma of Hawthorn blossom. Bees and butterflies adore these small but sweet scented flowers. The flower spikes rise upward and are frequently clipped to make aromatic bouquets. If the grower does not wish the hedge screen to produce flowers, then it is suggested the plant be clipped early in June before the buds have a chance to open. Following flowering, Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia produces red cherry-like fruits that are a favourite of song birds. If the birds do not consume the berries, they turn a dark blackish shade in the autumn. In bygone eras, the Portuguese Laurel was planted wherever game birds could browse the berries because it was believed that the berries of the shrub pleasantly flavoured the bird’s meat. Its dense growth habit makes the Portuguese Laurel an ideal nesting location for many small birds. Your Prunus Lusitanica Angustifolia Instant Screen will grow in full sun or in shade. It grows well in all soil types, even chalky. Although moderately drought tolerant when established, it is advised that the soil is kept evenly moist for the first year of growth while your hedging screen establishes a strong and diverse root system.

Olive Tree Shrubs for Sale Online UK - Paramount Plants UK

Olive Tree Shrubs for Sale Online UK - Paramount Plants UK

Olive Tree Shrubs (Olea Europaea Shrubs)  Latin Name Olea Europaea, these European native olive tree shrubs are evergreen with a nice bushy shape. Despite their Mediterranean allure, these are tough plants that are fully hardy for UK growing conditions and can be used for hedging or ornamental use. Olive Trees will flower in summer and may sometimes go on to produce fruit in the autumn in warmer parts of the country and in less exposed areas.  These olive tree shrubs are the perfect shape and size for creating an evergreen olive hedge. Olives are very clipable and they are easy to maintain growing circa 20 cm per year. Every Mediterranean-style garden should ideally contain olive trees. In addition to hedging, these Olive Tree Shrubs with their bushy shapes could be clipped into topiary style cones. These versatile Olive Tree shrubs look very good when planted in containers, especially in pairs on balconies and terraces. In fact, olive trees are renowned for doing well in containers. But don’t forget to water them however in dry periods.  As with all olives, they prefer a sunny sheltered spot, so it’s best to choose a south or west facing aspect when planting.  We also have olive trees as small and medium standards and mature tall full standard olive trees and perhaps more unusually what we call Bonsai Olives, mature gnarled olive trees

Multi Stem Boxwood. Buxus Sempervirens Multi Stem Topiary Plants

Multi Stem Boxwood. Buxus Sempervirens Multi Stem Topiary Plants

Multi Stem Boxwood Buxus Sempervirens. These elegant multi-stem Buxus specimens feature a rounded ball-shaped crown on top of raised multi-stems, with around 5 or 6 stems per plant. Because the topiary crown is raised above ground level, these Multi Stem Boxwoods present an interesting alternative to the regular Buxus globes. Boxwood is an evergreen, small-leafed shrub with rounded, glossy dark green foliage. Buxus Sempervirens is very slow-growing with a tight, compact habit resulting in a dense, even form when clipped. Due to these characteristics, Buxus is very often used for topiary and geometrical low-hedging and is invariably grown for its attractive foliage. How To Care For Box Topiary Boxwood does not mind pruning and shaping, a trait that has made it popular particularly for use as topiary, ornamental hedges and parterres in formal gardens. Boxwood multi stems are suitable either for growing in containers or in the ground. Plants in containers will need fertilizer. Box topiary should be trimmed around mid-summer, and again in late summer if required. During the growing season, make sure your Buxus plants get plenty of water. How to use Buxus Sempervirens Multi Stem: These Multi Stem Buxus plants can be used for creating height and depth when planted on its own or with other forms of Buxus – such as Buxus balls and globes, where the foliage begins at ground level.  The multi-stems give the crown a lift and place it above ground level, leaving room for under planting if desired. These Multi Stem Buxus topiary trees are suitable for use as part of a formal garden scheme. They look very elegant as sentries either side of an entrance.

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens Japanese Maple Flavescens

Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens Japanese Maple Flavescens

Acer Palmatum Dissectum FlavescensThe Japanese Maple Flavescens (Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens) is a 6-8 foot small, ornamental Acer tree that looks beautiful in any landscape garden. It is a member of the dissectum group of acers. For an acer, it has unusually bright yellow and fresh green leaves in spring and early summer. In fact, the actual name of this beautiful Acer means "yellowish”. As summer progresses, the green colour of the leaves darkens considerably. In autumn, the foliage is bright yellow and can be dramatically tinged with orange, providing a colour spectrum of golden and orange. As with all dissectum acers, the leaves are deeply lobed with 5 to 7 lobes per leaf. Although a small tree, Flavescens is a vigorous grower, its natural growth habit being pendulous and dome-shaped, as you would expect from the dissectum acers. Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens is often described as having a cascading habit. It grows best in sunny patches with partial shade, and in well drained soils. After ten years of growth, you can expect this tree to measure around 8ft in height although sizes can vary.  Acer Palmatum Dissectum Flavescens is also suitable for container growing.Japanese maples have an array of stunning colours all year round and this can be incorporated in the landscape design. When determining the placement of these trees, you should think about the colour changes throughout the year and the way this will impact on the rest of the garden or landscape. What's great about the Japanese Maple is its ability to create a dramatic effect. For example, if you decide to place a Japanese Maple Flavescens on a slope, it will hang in a graceful dome, creating a cascading effect. The Japanese Maple Flavescens is a beautiful, vibrant tree that compliments any garden. It features a range of colours which vary from season to season. Upkeep is minimal due to the tree coping in many weather conditions and terrains.

More open and airy and less dense than solid hedging below the foliage line, evergreen holly oak pleached trees work well in urban gardens where a small vegetable patch can be kept separate by using an attractive wall of pleached trees. Once established, your will find your Quercus Ilex pleached trees are relatively low-maintenance, requiring just one prune per year to keep them in shape. At Paramount Plants, we are specialists in Evergreen Trees and Trees suitable for screeening.
