Fishing: North Atlantic is a simulation game focused on fishing in the North Atlantic region. The company Misc Games, experienced in the subject matter, is responsible for its creation (its previous work, Fishing: Barents Sea , operated on a similar pattern). Developers expanded the gameplay formula and resigned from an external publisher in favor of an independent product release.
Gameplay
The only mode available in the game is career mode. We start the game with creating our avatar in which we will play the entire game . We can choose his name and gender, and then adjust the options related to additional mechanics (including whether we want to conduct a tutorial or whether we want to have fast travel option available). Depending on our preferences, we observe the game from the third or first person perspective. Initially, we have at our disposal a small cutter given to us by our uncle, which allows fishing only with a harpoon. Using it is similar to the system from Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag : we stand in the bow of our boat, aim, select the strength of the throw and try to hit the nearby fish. If we succeed, we bring our prey on board.
As our career progresses, we acquire better and better equipment and recruit new employees . Thanks to the money earned, we buy larger boats or better fishing equipment (e.g. nets that allow us to catch tons of fish at once). You earn reputation points by selling fish in ports. The right amount of them results in better payment for supplies, more lucrative contracts or better loan terms from port officials. We can catch 8 species of fish as well as lobsters and snow crabs. Each species occurs in a different region, so in order to complete the orders received, we must plan our route accordingly.
