The QWR Fire Collar has built in fixing lugs which are used to secure it to the structure. Durability Tested to Type X durability which means the QWR Fire Collars can be installed in conditions exposed to weathering. Installation Information Quelfire QWR Fire Collars should be used where a plastic pipe penetrates a fi re rated wall or floor. For vertical pipework, one unit should be installed to the underside of the floor. For horizontal pipework one unit should be fitted to both sides of the wall. The surface of the wall must be clean and free of loose debris/dust and any irregularities between the QWR and the wall, and between the pipe and wall, should be filled by applying QuelStop Intumescent Acrylic Sealant. Holes for the pipes should be drilled as close as possible to the outside diameter of the plastic pipes and are described in the “performance” table later in this document. If the holes are drilled too large then QF2 Fire Protection Compound or QuelStop Fire Batt will be required or even an alternative system such as an Intuwrap so care and communication between trades is the key to a simple installation. The QWR Fire Collar should be fed around the plastic pipe, securing the ends together by passing the tongues on one end through the slots on the other end. The tongues should then be bent back and the unit secured to the structure using the correct fixings through all the lugs. (It is not a tested solution to not use all the lugs so space so should be allowed for the fixing of the QWR Fire Collar during design and installation of the pipework.) Airflow Geothermal Kit Product Part Number Airflow Geothermal Kit - AFGEOTHERM Description The Brine to Air Exchanger enhances the thermal efficiency of your MVHR unit by provided additional preheating to your unit during the winter and also helps to cool the air during the summer. The Brine to Air Exchanger uses the warmth in the ground to maintain the brine’s temperature of 8 - 12°C. A 1.2 m deep flexible polyethylene under-soil tube pumps brine through a loop. To increase the heat exchange the tube should be laid directly under the soil in a sand bed. The minimum space between the parallel tubes should be 0.5 m. Alternatively to laying the tube horizontally a vertical bore can be used. Operation Brine to Air Energy collector can work either in automatic or manual mode. In automatic mode operation of the circulation pump is controlled by the MVHR unit. The pump circulates the brine when the outside air temperature falls below 5°C or when actual supply air temperature is higher than the set value. System can be switched into the manual mode by using an operation switch. In this mode the circulation pump is always turned on regardless of the outdoor air temperature. Installation Brine to air heat exchanger is mounted in-line before mvhr unit. It is important that the air flows through the heat exchanger in horizontal direction. To provide optimum performance it is recommended that approx. 1m of straight duct is mounted upstream and downstream of the brine to air heat exchanger. The ducting should be done with Airflex ISO system to avoid creation of the condensation. Alternatively insulated spiral ducting can be used. Pipework and connection between hydraulic kit and brine to air heat exchanger shall be provided on site. The pipe connections of the hydraulic kit are ¾” IG. The quick vent valve must be installed at the highest point of the pipework. It is recommended to install undersoil tube when outdoor air is above 5°C. The area where the undersoil tube is laid should not be built over so it is guaranteed that seeping rainwater can contribute to the thermal regeneration of the soil. The filling of the system is carried out via feed and drain cock located on the hydraulic kit. During this operation take care to avoid air entering the system. After the installation of the undersoil pipework, system should be tested at high pressure for tightness check. How does a brine Geothermal system work A network of brine (salty water) filled pipes are buried at a depth of approx 1.5 meters and connect to the air intake of a heat recovery ventilation system via a heat exchanger. The geothermal ducts use the energy stored in the ground. At a depth of 1 - 2 meters, the ground temperature in the UK varies between +8 and +12 ºC depending on the season and on the soil type. By using the relatively stable temperature at this, the efficiency of the ventilation system is greatly improved This provides a source of heating or cooling for a building. The QRS is manufactured specifically to suit differing sizes and diameters of duct and is supplied ready to be fitted into the wall with an opening lid for retrofitting. Standards & Approvals Tested to BSEN 1366-3 and classified according to EN 13501-2 Tested with Uncapped / Uncapped (U/U) duct configurations as required for ventilation ducts Up to 2 hour fire rating Installation Information Quelfire QRS Intumescent Fire Sleeves should be used where a plastic ventilation duct penetrates a fire rated wall to maintain the compartmentation in the event of a fire. The QRS requires no mechanical fixing or framework support, they rely on the fire rated wall construction, plasterboard or solid masonry/block (or QuelStop Fire Batt) to hold it in place so the penetrations should be cut as tight as possible to the QRS Fire Sleeve itself, suggested approximate apertures sizes are given in the “performance” table below. For the simplest installation, the QRS Fire Sleeve should be installed around the duct and then the wall installed tight around the QRS, however, they can be retrofitted into the wall too. Simply hinge open the lid, feed around the duct, wrap tight and close the lid, secure shut with the self-adhesive tape supplied (or self tapping screw in the case of circular fire sleeves) and then slide the QRS along the duct into the wall construction. The QRS should be installed centrally positioned within the wall and must be either flush or protruding from both sides of the wall in accordance with the relevant installation detail.Once installed into the wall, in the correct position, the perimeter should be sealed with QuelStop Intumescent Acoustic Acrylic Sealant. Where oversize hole or letterboxes with other services are formed then the QRS Fire Sleeve can be installed in conjunction with the QuelStop Fire Batt system having been tested in various wall constructions including with multiple ducts/QRS stacked or side by side. Where a cluster of ducts/QRS are installed the QRS should be tight to each other, alternatively they need to be far enough apart to suitably install QuelStop Fire Batt or the original wall construction, all in accordance with the specific installation detail and tested scope of application.
