Ways of Greening Using Plants and Gardens for Healthy Work and Living Surroundings

Ways of Greening Using Plants and Gardens for Healthy Work and Living Surroundings

This book focuses on rethinking working and living spaces and understanding how greening can make them healthier and their occupants happier. It teaches how to see unique ideas for spaces and some of the materials needed to create the designs. Inspired by a study that states that 8% of a space needs to have plants in order to positively affect the air quality of the space this book explores what that minimum would look like in spaces and how it can be done to existing spaces as well as to new site designs greening both interiors and exteriors. Using the mathematical amount of 10% per square foot the illustrations start at that quantity of greening and show how it can look. The sites selected are both public and private sites as well as interior and exterior. As there are more modalities needs and locations where people now work making sure that multiple types of spaces are designed for people’s success is more relevant than ever. This includes designs for more traditional offices open-air offices commercial spaces homes studios and more. Ways of Greening: using Plans and Gardens for Healthy Work and Living Surroundings gives readers a way to not only understand greening but to understand how to see greening applied to their place. The two basic ways to see the spaces selected are existing spaces to which greening design is applied afterward and upcoming spaces in which greening design can be built directly into the space. The first type of retrofitting greening into existing spaces can also be combined with the second type of space (new designs). There are examples of both types throughout the book. Essentially this book addresses ways in which business owners residents developers architects agencies and others can integrate greening to improve the air quality and the quality of life with a green solution. | Ways of Greening Using Plants and Gardens for Healthy Work and Living Surroundings

Disruptive Leadership Apple and the Technology of Caring Deeply-Nine Keys to Organizational Excellence and Global Impact

Disruptive Leadership Apple and the Technology of Caring Deeply-Nine Keys to Organizational Excellence and Global Impact

Disruptive leadership is a topic generating intense interest. Companies all over the world are trying to upend their industry through innovative products and services. Becoming a disruptive organization however is easier said than done. Even more difficult is being a company that continually disrupts. Is it possible to discern a code for how companies can achieve this? In this highly readable and engaging book a disruptive leadership framework is proposed in which caring deeply is placed at the center of the model. By turning care into a focal point a triphasic model is proposed that moves from the personal sphere (individual) to the corporate arena (organizational) and then to the global stage (impact). Nine keys are identified along this path for how companies can realize organizational excellence. While care may seem like a soft concept in the rough and tumble world of business it is argued how it is actually an inspired manner for providing direction structure and know-how that leads to powerful outcomes. Apple is profiled as a leading example of leveraging what is termed the technology of caring deeply. Other companies such as Nike IKEA Zappos Starbucks are also profiled. Finally a leadership canvas is provided to help activate the lessons shared in the book. | Disruptive Leadership Apple and the Technology of Caring Deeply-Nine Keys to Organizational Excellence and Global Impact

The COVID-19 Pandemic has been an ultimate challenge for leadership resiliency. Resilient leaders are thoughtful and deliberate. They balance logic and emotion ego and humility. They lead through compassionate empathy by focusing on the ‘how’ not only the ‘what’. They use their influence to drive positive change diversity and inclusion and create an equitable community. Most books on resilient leadership appear to focus on spirituality and tools to grow an “unshakable core of calm strength and happiness” or “bounce back without getting stuck in the toxic emotions of guilt false guilt anger and bitterness”. These books are very similar to handbooks focusing on mental toughness and providing guides for overcoming adversity and managing negative emotions. This book however defines resilience as a critical competency of high-performing leaders. Creativity Innovation and Entrepreneurship The Only Way to Renew Your Organization

Creativity Innovation and Entrepreneurship The Only Way to Renew Your Organization

People with ideas are dreamers. People who get things done are doers. One doer is worth eight dreamers. There are three kinds of people who make up an innovator. There are inventors (people who have new and unique ideas) problem solvers (people who have ideas about how to correct a previous error) and entrepreneurs (people who transform ideas into realities). Put them altogether they spell innovator. Most innovative books today focus on ways to create new and unique ideas; some of them also address problem-solving but this is less than 10% of the methodologies that the innovator needs to master. The approaches used in this book transform an idea into reality or to put it another way deliver innovative products to make a profit for the organization and instill pride in its employees. This means that every step in the process needs to have innovation applied to it in order to meet the expectations and demands of today's sophisticated customer. This book is designed to help the reader and their organization complete the complex process of bringing a new product to market by presenting what is expected at each step in the cycle and providing step-by-step instructions on what to do at each specific step. In large to mid-sized organizations this book is designed to help each individual understand how they fit into the innovative cycle and explains why they should be more creative related to the work they do and more conscious of the contributions they can make. It emphasizes the importance of every individual contributing to the organization's innovative process. The book is designed to help the organization understand its Innovation Systems Cycle. In the early part of the cycle it focuses on weeding out projects that do not have the potential to produce value-added results to the stakeholders. By using the guidelines outlined in this book an organization can reduce its new project failure rate by as much as 50% which should result in almost doubling the organization’s new product output thereby increasing profits by as much as 15%. | Creativity Innovation and Entrepreneurship The Only Way to Renew Your Organization

Throughput Economics Making Good Management Decisions

Throughput Economics Making Good Management Decisions

Schragenheim Camp and Surace three leaders of TOC community are tackling one of value destroyers of corporations—the misuse and abuse of traditional cost accounting. This book develops a practical methodology for better decision making by looking at the impact of certain types of decisions on a company’s bottom line. This well-defined methodology allows mid-managers higher level managers and financial staff to create real value by concentrating on what truly matters. Boaz Ronen Professor Emeritus Coller School of Management Tel Aviv University Tel Aviv IsraelThroughput Economics is a must read for entrepreneurs and managers who want to make their organizations more and more antifragile. Andrea Zattoni CEO of Antifragility ItalyManagement accounting is a dry topic. Throughput Economics is not—managers can learn a lot they can apply to their company from it. Rudolf Burkhart Business Development Director Vistem Gmbh GermanyThroughput Economics challenges the current thinking of how to evaluate cost risks and rewards of any deal or any other new market opportunity being considered especially the practice of calculating cost-per-unit. Instead this book offers a process that directly answers the critical question: If we accept the proposed decision will the performance of the organization improve? The process involves the intuition of the key people in the organization together with the relevant data to come up with the best available information from which to form a reasonable range of net profit when the considered decision is added on top of all the other activities undertaken by the organization. The process is explained and demonstrated using a variety of cases where the organization faces a new non-trivial idea along with a detailed explanation of how it should work including software support that provides very quick response to many what-if suggestions. This book offers a new and well-defined process applicable to every organization that considers both financial impacts and capacity limitations and also includes the impact of uncertainty by providing the range of reasonable results rather than one number which is always proven wrong in the end. Overall the book provides a holistic method for simplified decision making in seemingly complex or shifting environments using a constraints mindset to facilitate companies’ realization for the first time their true potential. | Throughput Economics Making Good Management Decisions

Implementing Hoshin Kanri How to Manage Strategy Through Policy Deployment and Continuous Improvement

Implementing Hoshin Kanri How to Manage Strategy Through Policy Deployment and Continuous Improvement

This book focuses on the implementation of Hoshin Kanri. It is a response to most books on strategic planning that tend to downplay the implementation and only describe the fully implemented planning process. The power of this book originates from a project in which a team of five professionals over a period of three years implemented Hoshin Kanri in 14 companies; results were drawn from 130 workshops with leadership teams. The project team subsequently ran several accelerators inside large and small companies as well as public institutions. All these experiences together form the implementation focus of the book. Moreover the organization of the book mirrors the message of its scientific thinking which is also the basic principle of Hoshin Kanri: Chapter 1 focuses on the basic analysis—Is Hoshin Kanri something for your organization? Chapter 2 addresses the ambition—What is the vision for strategy work in your organization? Chapter 3 presents the conditions needed for effective strategic work. Chapter 4 discusses the choice of implementation strategy and your role as the change agent. Chapter 5 describes how Hoshin Kanri works when implemented. Chapter 6 addresses coaching/mentoring and the Kata philosophy. Chapter 7 presents important analytical tools. Appendix 1 describes the journey made by a medium-sized construction company. Essentially this book describes in a concrete and structured way how you—the change agent—can use Hoshin Kanri in your organization to tackle large and complex challenges. | Implementing Hoshin Kanri How to Manage Strategy Through Policy Deployment and Continuous Improvement

True Kaizen Management's Role in Improving Work Climate and Culture

True Kaizen Management's Role in Improving Work Climate and Culture

What does it take to manage an organization to success? No matter what industry you are in an organization is primarily a group of people. This book focuses on that ever-important human element. In the rush to get 'lean' many organizations focus solely on tools for increasing productivity but where do these tools come from? In this book Collin McLoughlin and Toshihiko Miura look back on their decades of international consulting experience to examine how organizations around the world have transformed on a cultural level by respecting the people who work within them and leveraging their creativity to solve problems. As our workforce becomes more knowledgeable skillful and more perceptive of their needs and wants as employees the ability to reach the true potential of an organization becomes more and more difficult. Managers must look at each individual element of an equation like this in order to fully understand how to achieve an answer. They must begin to answer more focused questions such as: 1. How productive is the existing work climate and culture? 2. How do employees as individuals navigate the existing work climate? (How do they deal with day-today issues with each other?) 3. Where and how are individuals and their work processes assessed? 4. What obstacles do employees face every day and are they empowered to fix these obstacles? 5. What role does leadership play at each level of the organization? (Looking at the organization in layers of management. ) To address these challenges this book focuses on three main aspects of leadership and management: 1. Addressing and Improving the Perspective of Management - The ideas presented in this book are not limited to a certain industry or field of work but can be applied in any setting because they speak to a universal human element. 2. Exploring and Improving Work Climate - Organizations are social entities operating within their own controlled environment. This book will explore the factors that contribute to and encourage a positive work climate. 3. Observing and Eliminating Wasteful Work Processes - Observing wasteful activities and work processes requires a refined perspective. The case studies presented illustrate the How and Why to help refine expertise. This will also lead to the joy and benefits | True Kaizen Management's Role in Improving Work Climate and Culture

Job Shop Lean An Industrial Engineering Approach to Implementing Lean in High-Mix Low-Volume Production Systems

Job Shop Lean An Industrial Engineering Approach to Implementing Lean in High-Mix Low-Volume Production Systems

In the 1950’s the design and implementation of the Toyota Production System (TPS) within Toyota had begun. In the 1960’s Group Technology (GT) and Cellular Manufacturing (CM) were used by Serck Audco Valves a high-mix low-volume (HMLV) manufacturer in the United Kingdom to guide enterprise-wide transformation. In 1996 the publication of the book Lean Thinking introduced the entire world to Lean. Job Shop Lean integrates Lean with GT and CM by using the five Principles of Lean to guide its implementation: (1) identify value (2) map the value stream (3) create flow (4) establish pull and (5) seek perfection. Unfortunately the tools typically used to implement the Principles of Lean are incapable of solving the three Industrial Engineering problems that HMLV manufacturers face when implementing Lean: (1) finding the product families in a product mix with hundreds of different products (2) designing a flexible factory layout that fits hundreds of different product routings and (3) scheduling a multi-product multi-machine production system subject to finite capacity constraints. Based on the Author’s 20+ years of learning teaching researching and implementing Job Shop Lean since 1999 this book Describes the concepts tools software implementation methodology and barriers to successful implementation of Lean in HMLV production systems Utilizes Production Flow Analysis instead of Value Stream Mapping to eliminate waste in different levels of any HMLV manufacturing enterprise Solves the three Industrial Engineering problems that were mentioned earlier using software like PFAST (Production Flow Analysis and Simplification Toolkit) Sgetti and Schedlyzer Explains how the one-at-a-time implementation of manufacturing cells constitutes a long-term strategy for Continuous Improvement Explains how product families and manufacturing cells are the basis for implementing flexible automation machine monitoring virtual cells Manufacturing Execution Systems and other elements of Industry 4. 0 Teaches a new method Value Network Mapping to visualize large multi-product multi-machine production systems whose Value Streams share many processes Includes real success stories of Job Shop Lean implementation in a variety of production systems such as a forge shop a machine shop a fabrication facility and a shipping department Encourages any HMLV manufacturer planning to implement Job Shop Lean to leverage the co-curricular and extracurricular programs of an Industrial Engineering department | Job Shop Lean An Industrial Engineering Approach to Implementing Lean in High-Mix Low-Volume Production Systems
