Pleached Olive Trees for Sale Online UK - Many Mature Sizes

Pleached Olive Trees for Sale Online UK - Many Mature Sizes

Pleached Olive TreesPleached olive trees are known for above fence screening, with the square geometric pleached crown offering year-round evergreen colour. Olive trees, Latin Name Olea Europaea, are upright evergreen trees with textured bark and naturally grey/green foliage. Pleached versions are grown in a box-shape on a bamboo frame and spread horizontally so they cover a wide space with their vigorous growth. In late spring to summer pleached olive trees flower. Their blooms are small, four-petaled whitish flowers with yellow stamens. They grow amongst the foliage and are very attractive to pollinators. In summer olive fruits may appear. Fruiting is more likely if you live in the South or have a sheltered garden because olive trees enjoy the warmth. Throughout winter, these Pleached Olive Trees retain their foliage creating strong architectural shapes in the garden.Pleached Olive Trees are a must for Mediterranean style gardens and bring formal structure to any size or themed outdoor space. We also sell olive trees in full standard shape.Height and Spread Of Pleached Olive TreesOur pleached olive trees grow on clear trunks that reach well above head height. Olive trees will grow to ten metres tall by ten wide and grow 20 cm each year. Their pleached box-shaped crowns will sit above your head leaving plenty of space and light around the trunk. How Hardy Are Pleached Olive TreesOlea Europaea Pleached is a hardy olive tree that’s tough enough to withstand UK weather conditions. It prefers warmth and sunlight like all olives but will grow in colder parts of the UK down to sub-zero temperatures. It is drought tolerant once established. How To Use Pleached Olive TreesPleached Olive Trees are very popular above fence screening because they create total privacy, growing tall enough to completely block out neighbours and retaining their foliage all year round. You may find some natural leaf shed in April but this is quickly filled in with new strong growth.Pleached Olive Trees also make an unusual lining for formal footpaths. They keep you dry in winter and shaded during the summer. How To Care For Pleached Olive TreesLike all olive plants, Olea Europaea Pleached ideally prefers a sunny, sheltered spot so choose a south-facing, draught and frost-pocket free space if you can. This will promote strong growth, flowers and fruits.Once planted it’s important to water them regularly until established and trim once or twice a year to retain the pleached box form.A good thick layer of mulch around the base during spring locks in moisture and provides nutrients for a healthy season of growth.

Full Standard Leylandii Trees To Buy Online UK. Cupressus Leylandii Standard Shape Trees.

Evergreen Standard Trees - our Cupressus Leylandii trees have been trained to grow as a full standard tree to cover over the fence panel or for above wall privacy screening. Leylandii trees are often referred to as simply Leylandii, these are fast growing evergreen conifers that are mainly used for hedging and evergreen screening.  Cupressus Leylandii trees make excellent roosting places and may also be used as nest sites for birds such as greenfinches, robins, dunnocks and wrens. We also have Leyland Cypress trees available in a golden colour - Cupressus Leyland Goldrider and the ever popular Leylandii Castlewellan GoldCupressus leylandii do need to be correctly maintained with regular trims, trimming should be done twice or three times each year to keep their shape. Leyland Cypress should not be cut back too hard ie beyond the green foliage as they do not re-shoot from old wood. So please bear in mind that they do need consistent trims each year rather than letting them go for a couple of years and cutting them back hard.Leylandii trees are still the fastest and most cost effective way of achieving a neat tall hedge or screen in the garden as they will grow up to 1m per year (2-3ft). We also recommend Thuya Plicata for Hedging and Screening View our Blog post on Using Plants for Screening

Pinus Sylvestris Standard Trees. Scots Pine Trees Clear Stem

Pinus Sylvestris Standard Trees. Scots Pine Trees Clear Stem

The Scots Pine or Pinus Sylvestris is one of the most-planted conifers in the world and is also an excellent choice as an accent tree. These are Pinus Sylvestris standard trees. Native to the British Isles, by the 1700’s forests of Pinus Sylvestris were found only in the northern mountains of Scotland, hence its common name. It is the UK’s only native cone-bearing tree. Its upper trunk and branches develop an orange-brown, flaking bark. The needles, up to 7 cm in length, are grey-green. All Scots Pine trees bear both male and female small yellow flowers in spring, developing cones 5 cm long, which take 2 years to mature from green to brown. Hardy in even the most severe northern European climates, Pinus Sylvestris will grow to a mature height of more than 12 metres and spread of 8 metres in 20 to 50 years if left to their own devices. They can grow almost a metre in height every year before reaching their mature size, and then live for 250-300 years. Plant your Pinus Sylvestris Standard Tree in full sun in any well-drained soil, in an exposed or sheltered position. It is important to select a spot where its heavy needle drop will not be a problem. Tolerant of pollution, it is a good choice for city plantings but is salt and wind-resistant, so does well in coastal locations. It is not favoured by deer so is good for planting on country properties. A single Pinus Sylvestris, or a group of several, planted in the middle of a large lawn in a row will form an impressive focal point. In a woodland or wildlife garden, a Scots Pine will create shade for under-storey trees and shrubs, and provide valuable shelter for wildlife. Pinus Sylvestris is starting to extend its range farther south to reclaim areas in which it once thrived, and this native conifer is a worthwhile addition to any UK landscape. You may also be interested in our more topiary Pinus Sylvestris trees including Pinus Sylvestris Cloud Tree, Pinus Sylvestris Topiary Dome and the Pinus Sylvestris Watereri Topiary Lollipop.

Ligustrum Japonicum Full Standard Tree. Evergreen Japanese Privet Standard Tree. Evergreen Screening Trees

Ligustrum Japonicum Full Standard Tree. Evergreen Japanese Privet Standard Tree. Evergreen Screening Trees

This is a Japanese Privet Tree (Latin Name: Ligustrum Japonicum) trained in a 'standard' tree shape - meaning it has a thick crown of foliage on a long clear stem. Ligustrum Japonicum is also known as Evergreen Privet or Wax Leafed Privet. Originating from Japan and Korea, this tall Ligustrum japonicum full standard tree has a thick covering of shiny, dark green leaves all year round, making it an excellent evergreen screening plant. The leaves are somewhat pear-shaped with a pointed end. They tend to measure 5 to 10 centimeters long and 2.5 to 5 centimeters wide. The top side of the leaf is darker than the underside and sports five or six raised veins that stand out in stark contrast to the rest of the leaf. Variegated varieties of the Ligustrum Japonicum sport lovely leaves that are a marbled mix of dark green and cream colours. Because of its tall elegant trunk, these mature evergreen trees work particularly well when used as stilted hedging for above the fence line screening. These Ligustrum Japonicum Full Standards have been shaped over time to have a crown of evergreen foliage above a clear straight stem of at least 190 cm from the pot to the base of the crown (depending on which you select). White flower panicles appear in the spring. Each panicle measures about 12 to 20 centimeters in length. The clusters of blossoms have a sweet, pleasing fragrance. After flowering, green berries appear that ripen to a shiney black colouration during late summer. The dark berries tend to persist on the tree into the winter months and add visual interest. Songbirds love dining on the berries and they are an invaluable food source during the early winter months when berries are often scarce. Handy Tips: Trim Ligustrum Japonicum to shape in late winter - if you clip during the late summer you will lose the flowers and the berries. As the tree ages, it tends to develop an open form. Many people prune the tree up to create a bonsai-like appearance. The tree's rapid growth rate makes it a favourite for creating topiary specimens. Although, the tree tolerates pruning well, it does not require it. When left to grow naturally, the Ligustrum japonicum develops a multi-stemmed form. Ligustrum Japonicum is exceptionally hardy and naturalizes well in areas with mild winters. It requires very little care to thrive. The Ligustrum japanicum grows well in full sun or partial shade. It is not overly picky about soil type. Once established, it can withstand periods of drought.  We also have mature Ligustrum Japonicum variegated in a full standard shape. Max Height 6m Approx.

Tilia Cordata Small Leaved Lime Trees Full Standard. Buy UK

Tilia Cordata Small Leaved Lime Trees Full Standard. Buy UK

Tilia Cordata, or Small-leaved Lime, has long been a favourite of UK gardeners, as its hardiness, combined with considerable ornamental qualities, makes it ideal for a variety of landscapes. Our full standard specimens will fit in a variety of garden spaces!Tilia are a genus of deciduous trees grown for their small fragrant cup-shaped flowers and stately habit. Tilia Cordata or Small Leaved Lime has a spreading habit. In ancient times Tilia Cordata was a dominant species in the woodlands of the UK, and for many centuries has been used in UK gardens and landscapes. In spring, the glossy green heart-shaped leaves, up to 8 cm long, emerge, followed by the fragrant flowers of June. Creamy-white and drooping in clusters, they will attract large numbers of bees and butterflies! In autumn, clusters of nutlets form. The foliage of Small-leaved Lime turns yellow in autumn before falling, leaving the bare multi-stemmed form to add structure to the winter garden.Hardy throughout the UK and continental Europe, Tilia Cordata will grow to a height of 10 metres and spread of 6 metres in 25 years, with a possible mature height of 30 metres after 50 years. Little pruning of Small-leaved Lime is necessary, but if desired to create a hedge or screen, it can be done in late winter. If planting in a row or grouping, space plants 6-9 metres apart.Plant Tilia Cordata in full sun or partial shade in a sheltered position in moist but well-drained sand, clay or chalk soil with an alkaline to neutral pH. It makes an excellent planting in a wetter but not waterlogged soil, and should not be used in extremely dry conditions, although it will tolerate short periods of drought. It is tolerant of salt, so can be planted in coastal regions, and being extremely tolerant of pollution, will thrive in city locations. As they are eaten by deer, Small-leaved Lime trees may need protection in country gardens. Our multi-stemmed Tilia Cordata can be used to create a large screen or wind break, which can be pruned to size or left to grow into a spectacular boundary to a large property. One specimen will be a striking focal point in a large lawn. This ancient forest tree makes a good addition to a woodland or wildlife garden.Tilia Cordata, with its roots deep in ancient Britain, is still an excellent choice for UK gardens. Our full standard trees can be used in mass plantings as ornamental and hardy additions to the landscape. See also Tilia Cordata Greenspire.

Holly Oak Pleached. Quercus Ilex Pleached Trees. Evergreen Pleached Trees for Screening

Holly Oak Pleached. Quercus Ilex Pleached Trees. Evergreen Pleached Trees for Screening

Quercus Ilex Pleached Trees, also known as Holm Oak Pleached Trees or Holly Oak Pleached Trees. These are evergreen pleached trees for screening. Pleached Trees are full standard trees on a clear stem of at least 1.8 metres tall from the base to the start of the crown. The branches are trained generally along a bamboo frame in flat rectangular shapes. The Holly Oak or the Holm Oak is a native to the Eastern Mediterranean. A naturalised oak in the UK it was introduced sometime in the 1500's and is one of the very few evergreen oak trees found in Britain today. Holm Oak lends itself well to shaping - the shrub/bushy part of the tree is reasonably fast growing (the stem stays the same height). This full standard form is easily kept in shape with an occasional trim. Quercus Ilex Pleach Tree is a large specimen tree with dark glossy silvery green leaves and a darker trunk or stem.Slow growing and evergreen, the Holly Oak is well suited to the art of pleaching. Pleached Quercus Ilex on long clear ‘stilted’ trunks can look quite spectacular in the garden particularly when used as above fence screening over an attractive stone wall. Pleached Trees are also ideal if you want to create an enclosure, walkway or garden room where you don’t necessarily need a solid barrier. Standalone a row of pleached Quercus Ilex allows light in and gives a privacy without blocking the view. These elevated hedges on stilts, allow beautiful stone work to be exposed below the fence line while providing screening above. More open and airy and less dense than solid hedging below the foliage line, evergreen holly oak pleached trees work well in urban gardens where a small vegetable patch can be kept separate by using an attractive wall of pleached trees. Once established, your will find your Quercus Ilex pleached trees are relatively low-maintenance, requiring just one prune per year to keep them in shape. At Paramount Plants, we are specialists in Evergreen Trees and Trees suitable for screeening.
