The shape can be maintained with a trim once or twice per year (they are quite fast-growing). Half Standard Tree have lots of uses - the neat and elegant shape means they can be used for above the fence-line privacy screening when planted in rows our for lining walkways and or avenues. These are ideal for small and medium-sized gardens. An evergreen conifer, Leylandii is a hybrid between two American conifers and was discovered in 1888 at Leighton Hall in Wales. The trees have dark sprays of flat green foliage held out on yellow-green stems. When young, the foliage is a light colour but it gradually matures to dark green. Leyland Cypress trees are incredibly fast growing and are often used for conifer topiary, particularly where distinct topiary structures are required. These Cupressus Topiary Trees are available as topiary spirals and as three ball shapes which we call Topiary Pom Pom. Now in stock, these Cupressus Leylandii Cypress Pom Pom Trees are beautifully shaped like cloud trees and are easy to maintain. They are ideal for pots or to plant into the ground and they look stunning in terracotta containers.The Cypress tree is an ancient evergreen conifer which comes in many varieties. Most cypress trees have an exceptionally long lifespan, living hundreds of years. These specimens are Cupressus Leylandii Aurea (or Golden Leyland Cypress). The new foliage emerges golden yellow and contrasts beautifully with the more mature dark green foliage adding to the drama of the pom pom topiary shape. The Pom Pom Topiary shape of these Leyland Cypress trees strongly evoke the look of Cloud Trees but without the more expensive price tag. Pom Pom topiary is generally formed over time from a shrub that is pruned into multi-stems (or several main stems), each with a ‘ball’ or ‘pom pom’ of foliage at the end. Pom-pom topiary has such distinctive and unique form that each plant should ideally be used as a stand-alone focal point in your design.Topiary is an ancient art and topiary plants come in many shapes and sizes available. Growing Tip: Pruning will be required. Cupressus Leylandii trees are often referred to as simply Leylandii or Leyland Cypress.The full botanical name is Cupressus x Leylandii and they are acknowledged as one of the fastest growing evergreen conifers here in the UK. Leylandii are mainly used for hedging and evergreen screening yet all Cupressus trees make excellent roosting places and are often used as nest sites by birds such as greenfinches, robins, dunnocks and wrens. A Cupressus Leylandii hedge provides year round shelter for a wide range of wildlife.The continuing popularity of Cupressus Leylandii for hedging here in the UK is hardly surprising if you look at this plant’s characteristics. As well as being evergreen, a prerequisite of any year round screening, Leylandii are very fast growing, expect a growth rate of at least 3 feet per year. Leyland Cypress will grow and perform well in virtually any soil but do need to be maintained.Cypress Leylandii new growth lends itself very well to trimming and a Leylandii hedge maintains its shape well if trimmed regularly, ideally 2 to 3 times per year. Leyland Cypress hedging should not be cut back too hard beyond the green foliage, as they do not shoot from old wood. Best practise is to give consistently regular trims rather than letting them grow and cutting back hard. If you follow this rule you will be rewarded with a neat dense hedge that will provide instant privacy. Leylandii trees are still the fastest and most cost effective way of achieving a neat tall hedge or screen in the garden. They grow up to 1m per year (2-3ft).
