Prunus Amanogawa. Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees for Sale

Prunus Amanogawa. Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees for Sale

Prunus Amanogawa, the Japanese Flowering Cherry or The Flagpole CherryUpright and narrow, this flowering Japanese cherry works well as an ornamental tree in all gardens. The British plant collector Ernest ‘Chinese’ Wilson first introduced the Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ to Europe in 1916. The small ornamental tree was dubbed ‘Amanogawa’ in Japanese which translates into ‘River in the Sky’. The moniker River in the Sky refers to the tree’s profusion of springtime blossoms that resemble the astronomical arrangement of the Milky Way. The Armanogawa is also commonly called the Japanese Flowering Cherry or the Flagpole Cherry tree. After its introduction, the Armanogawa quickly grew in popularity and was bestowed the Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1931. This Japanese cherry tree has a delicate appearance with an upright growth habit. Its canopy forms a column shape with extremely erect branches. The tree produces a canopy width of 2 to 5 meters. It is a relatively slow growing tree and usually takes around twenty years to reach a height of 5 meters. The tree’s petite size makes it a classic focal specimen for any garden. From mid-April to mid-May, the Armanogawa produces large clusters of shell-pink double blossoms that feature a pleasing fragrance. The flowers are delicate and can succumb to a late frost but the tree will suffer no harm if the mercury dips. Following flower production, the tree’s oval bronze leaves appear and quickly turn green. Each leaf measure 5 to 13 centimeters long and 2 to 7 centimeters wide with a serrated edge. In the autumn, the tree’s foliage turns brilliant hues of orange and red. The Armanogawa Cherry grows best in well-draining soil that contains ample organic material. Plant in full sunlight for best fall colours. When young, the tree usually benefits from staking to protect it from strong winds. Virtually care free, the Armanogawa requires no pruning to maintain its appearance. However, if pruning is desired it should be carried out in the late summer to give the pruning wounds ample time to heal before winter arrives. The show stopping beauty of the Armanogawa is undeniable. Its small size makes it perfect for any cottage or urban style garden setting. Once established, the tree is hardy and carefree.

Field Maple Trees for Sale. Acer Campestre. Hedge Maple

Field Maple Trees for Sale. Acer Campestre. Hedge Maple

The Field Maple, Latin name Acer Campestre, originating from Europe and parts of Asia, is the only maple tree that is native to the UK. Throughout British countryside, the Hedge Maple, as it is also known, can often be found in fields and hedgerows. In the winter season we also have Acer Campestre available in bare root form. A deciduous, low maintenance tree, the Field Maple has large mid-green foliage, the leaves having 5 lobes. It is in fact, not dissimilar to the Acer Pseudoplatanus (or the Sycamore Tree). It flowers in spring producing tiny green flowers and afterwards produces helicopter winged fruit. In autumn, the foliage turns yellow or red. The bark can take on a somewhat corky texture.Left to its own devices, Acer Campestre is a medium-sized, slow growing tree that will generally reach 7 to 10 metres height and spread. It has a nice, compact, bushy growth habit. Although deciduous and slow growing, it is not averse to being clipped and is thus sometimes used for creating hedges, particularly mixed hedgerows. In terms of aspect, the hedge or field maple will grow in full sun or partial shade. It also growths well in coastal locations.Timber from the field maple tends to be white in colour and is highly sought after particularly for musical instruments. It is widely believed that the acclaimed luthier Stradivari used Acer Campestre which grew naturally in the alpine forests of Northern Italy to make his instruments. These forests are still alive and well today – and are known as the Musical Woods (Il Bosco Che Suona). The field maple has an RHS award of garden merit.

Magnolia Solar Flair Trees for sale Online London UK

Magnolia Solar Flair Trees for sale Online London UK

Magnolia Solar Flair.A deciduous tree, Magnolia Solar Flair produces an abundance of large, charmingly bright yellow flowers each spring. Solar Flair produces an interesting yellow flower that starts out a charming apple green then fades to a creamy light yellow with a pink base as the petals unfurl. Each flower measures 10 to 13 centimeters across. The flowers appear on leafless branches so they make a bold statement on the tree that instantly grabs any onlookers attention. Unlike other magnolia trees, Magnolia Solar Flair tree is a late flowering variety and produces blossoms later in the season reducing the risk of frost damaging the flower buds. An interesting flower texture adds to its charm. Magnolia Solar Flair grows in a neat pyramid-like fashion to a height of 6 meters and a canopy width of 6 meters when mature. A hybrid, the Solar Flair magnolia is a cross between Magnolia x Brooklynensis ‘Woodsman’ and the Magnolia Goldstar. The Solar Flair magnolia is highly adaptable to clay, loam, or sandy soil conditions. It does not like waterlogged areas where its roots are frequently saturated with excessive moisture for extended periods of time. The Solar Flair Magnolia tolerates pruning well. Prune and shape the tree when it is in full leaf during mid-summer.In areas with cold winters, plant the dormant Solar Flair Magnolia in the late fall or early winter in warm climates. In places that suffer from cold winters, plant the tree during the early spring months before it starts producing flowers. After planting, keep the root system evenly moist but not waterlogged for the first six months. Pleached Bay Trees Pleached Lauris Nobilis for Sale Online

Pleached Bay Trees Pleached Lauris Nobilis for Sale Online

Laurus Nobilis is the popular bay leaf tree that holds the RHS Award of Garden Merit. This pleached tree version creates an ideal evergreen screen above the fence level. Bay trees are native to southern Europe and thrive here in many forms including the pleached, full standard and shrub form for hedging.  Our pleached trees have long clear stems with the crowns trained flat (laterall) on square bamboo support frames. As the tree matures the crown will fill out into a cube. Pleached bay trees are excellent screens as they block the view from a neighbour’s upstairs window, but the bare trunk keeps your garden uncluttered. If you’d preferred a leafed stem, try our pleached bay screens. The leaves of our pleached bay tree are narrowly ovate, leathery and especially tactical. When rubbed they have a distinctive warm and delicious fragrance. Bay is a staple herb typically added to Mediterranean dishes to add a rich, deep flavour. Bay trees hold onto their leaves all year-round, and in spring small greenish-yellow flowers appear in dense clusters which are not particularly noticeable to us but are loved by pollinators. The RHS have also given Laurus Nobilis the Plant for Pollinators tag because it’s so attractive to bees and butterflies. Following the flowers, Lauris Nobilis produce small black glossy berries that attract birds.Height and Spread of Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees can reach 8-12 metres in height and 8 metres in width but are easily kept smaller with a twice-yearly trim. How Hardy Are Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees are hardy throughout most of the UK down to temperatures of minus 10 if the roots are well-drained. They enjoy hot weather and have strong pest resistance. How To Use Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached trees are often used as above fence line screening to get the ‘hedge on stilts’ effect. They’ve been used for hundreds of years in formal gardens but have become popular in small modern gardens as their clear stem leaves room in compact spaces and their cubed crown forms a contemporary shape.Plant pleached bay trees to block out the neighbours and create shady spaces. For a hedge-line without gaps plant so the frames are just touching. You can also use pleached bay trees to create tunnels in larger spaces and as an unusual cubed specimen tree. Don’t forget to add a leaf or two to your pasta dishes and stews. How To Care For Laurus Nobilis Pleached TreesPleached bay trees will grow in most soils of any pH, including chalk. The soil should be moist but well-drained and preferably sited in a sunny spot as these are sun-loving trees.Dig out a hole one third wider than the root ball and as deep as the soil mark on the tree’s stem. Plant it up with plenty of good quality compost and water regularly until they are established. Once planted, all you will need to do is trim them once or twice a year to maintain the form and tie in any new shoots. Any shoots overgrowing the framework should be clipped off. There is no need to remove the bamboo framework unless you want to. It’s best to wait until the branches are sufficiently mature to maintain the shape.Other forms of Lauris Nobilis include Full Standard Bays, Bay Topiary Lollipop, Twisted Stem Bay Trees and Topiary Bay Cones.
