Jasminum Azoricum White Azorean Jasmine White Jasmine Plants

Jasminum Azoricum White Azorean Jasmine White Jasmine Plants

Jasminum Azoricum is an AGM winning white evergreen jasmine with a strong sweet scent. It’s a good climber for pergolas and trellis. White Azorean Jasmine is native to Madeira but grows well in the UK if it has shelter. Its twining stems are smothered with dark green ovate leaves that have wavy margins. Its large white summer flowers are highly fragrant with sweet notes and they grow abundantly in terminal panicles. This white jasmine flowers from spring right through to late autumn attracting many pollinators. In winter, foliage remains on the plant but it may shed some leaves in colder areas of the UK.Height And Spread Of Jasminum AzoricumWhite Azorean Jasmine can reach heights of 2.5 – 4 metres and spread over 50 cms to a metre. How Hardy Is Jasminum AzoricumIf grown in a sheltered, frost-free spot White Azorean Jasmine will survive mild UK winters. It benefits from fleece if very harsh conditions are forecast and is drought tolerant once established. How To Use Jasminum AzoricumWhite Azorean Jasmine will smother a pergola, archway, or trellis with foliage and fragrant white flowers. It’s a great choice for wildlife gardens as its blooms are loved by pollinators and the dense foliage provides shelter for birds.  This jasmine tends to grow taller than wider, so it fits into a narrow space if there is plenty of room to head up. You can grow White Azorean Jasmine up a sturdy obelisk in a container, or against a sunny fence or wall with strong supports. How To Care For Jasminum AzoricumWhite Azorean Jasmine will grow in most moist, free-draining soil, but it needs a sunny south-facing aspect and shelter from drying winds. Avoid frost pockets and cover with fleece or stuff the framework with straw in harsh conditions. Tie in stems as they grow and water well until established. Prune in late winter thinning out old stems as necessary to manage the height and spread.  A thick layer of mulch in spring encourages flower production and seals in moisture.

Prunus Amanogawa. Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees for Sale

Prunus Amanogawa. Japanese Flowering Cherry Trees for Sale

Prunus Amanogawa, the Japanese Flowering Cherry or The Flagpole CherryUpright and narrow, this flowering Japanese cherry works well as an ornamental tree in all gardens. The British plant collector Ernest ‘Chinese’ Wilson first introduced the Prunus ‘Amanogawa’ to Europe in 1916. The small ornamental tree was dubbed ‘Amanogawa’ in Japanese which translates into ‘River in the Sky’. The moniker River in the Sky refers to the tree’s profusion of springtime blossoms that resemble the astronomical arrangement of the Milky Way. The Armanogawa is also commonly called the Japanese Flowering Cherry or the Flagpole Cherry tree. After its introduction, the Armanogawa quickly grew in popularity and was bestowed the Award of Merit from the Royal Horticultural Society in 1931. This Japanese cherry tree has a delicate appearance with an upright growth habit. Its canopy forms a column shape with extremely erect branches. The tree produces a canopy width of 2 to 5 meters. It is a relatively slow growing tree and usually takes around twenty years to reach a height of 5 meters. The tree’s petite size makes it a classic focal specimen for any garden. From mid-April to mid-May, the Armanogawa produces large clusters of shell-pink double blossoms that feature a pleasing fragrance. The flowers are delicate and can succumb to a late frost but the tree will suffer no harm if the mercury dips. Following flower production, the tree’s oval bronze leaves appear and quickly turn green. Each leaf measure 5 to 13 centimeters long and 2 to 7 centimeters wide with a serrated edge. In the autumn, the tree’s foliage turns brilliant hues of orange and red. The Armanogawa Cherry grows best in well-draining soil that contains ample organic material. Plant in full sunlight for best fall colours. When young, the tree usually benefits from staking to protect it from strong winds. Virtually care free, the Armanogawa requires no pruning to maintain its appearance. However, if pruning is desired it should be carried out in the late summer to give the pruning wounds ample time to heal before winter arrives. The show stopping beauty of the Armanogawa is undeniable. Its small size makes it perfect for any cottage or urban style garden setting. Once established, the tree is hardy and carefree.

Mespilus Germanica Common Medlar Fruit Tree for Sale Online

Mespilus Germanica Common Medlar Fruit Tree for Sale Online

Mespilus Germanica or Common MedlarA member of the rose family, Mespilus Germanica, also known as Common Medlar, is a deciduous, ornamental fruit tree with a long history. This trouble-free tree has been cultivated throughout Europe for over 3,000 years, but it seems that these days it’s been unjustly forgotten. However, because of its attractive features, interesting edible fruit, and incredible resilience, Common Medlar is becoming popular again. A small tree with an umbrella-shaped crown, Common Medlar blossoms in late spring to early summer. The profusion of large, pure white flowers akin to wild roses looks striking framed by attractive foliage. The leaves of Common Medlar are toothed, oblong, with a hairy underside, medium green turning to striking shades of golden yellow and brown in the autumn. The self-fertile, five-petaled flowers are followed by edible fruit. Small and brown, Medlar fruit is both decorative and tasty. Although hard and inedible if picked too early, the fruit is quite delicious when fully ripe. The creamy texture and a flavour that’s similar to applesauce are achieved by leaving the picked fruit to soften for a few weeks, a process known as bletting.  Adaptable and sturdy, Common Medlar tolerates most soils, but prefers well-drained, fertile soil. It will thrive in a sunny location, sheltered from strong winds, but it can be grown in partial shade as well. Easy to grow and to care for, Common Medlar is pest and disease free. This long-lived tree can grow to be 4 to 8 metres high and across when mature, but it takes a few decades for it to achieve its ultimate height. Most specimens, however, remain relatively small, around 2 to 3 meters tall. Native to Europe and Asia, this ancient cultivar is fully hardy in Britain and Ireland. It won’t be bothered by severe winters or need sheltering when the temperatures drop below zero. As a matter of fact, the Medlar fruit benefits if it is harvested just after the first frost, as it speeds up the softening process. Self-pollinating and compact when fully established, Common Medlar is an ideal tree for small gardens. It won’t take up much space, and it provides year-round interest to the garden, with generous summer bloom, good autumn colour and unusual fruit that adorns bare branches as winter approaches. We have many more ornamental trees on offer and an ever growing selection of fruit trees, all of which are for sale online with UK and Ireland delivery.

Prunus Domestica Opal Plum Tree Self Pollinating Plum Tree

Prunus Domestica Opal Plum Tree Self Pollinating Plum Tree

Prunus Domestica Opal, more commonly known as the Opal Plum Tree, is a dependable fruiting edible plum tree, compact in size. Although prized for the dessert fruit it produces, this cultivar is also highly decorative, especially during the flowering season. Prunus Domestica Opal is self-fertile and as such does not require a pollination partner, another reason why this is a good choice of fruit tree where space is limited. In the early spring, this small tree is enveloped by clusters of small, white blossoms that adorn the bare branches. The flowers are followed by glossy, green foliage and fruit. The fruit appears green in early August, maturing to yellow and purple shades in time for the plum harvest. A cross between a gage and plum, the Opal variety produces abundant crops of sweet and juicy fruit. The plums of this variety are delicious when eaten plucked directly from the tree or can also be used to make preserves or plum brandy.Relatively undemanding, Opal Plum Tree thrives in full sunlight and loamy or sandy soils that are moist and well-drained. This cultivar will appreciate a sheltered position, as it is susceptible to late frosts due to its early bloom. It does not fare well in drought conditions so make sure to irrigate during particularly hot and dry summers. Bred in Sweden, Prunus Domestica Opal is fully hardy in the United Kingdom. Tough and enduring, this plum tree variety can survive winter temperatures as low as -20 degrees. Opal Plum Tree is the recipient of the Award of Garden Merit by Royal Horticultural Society, a sure sign it performs well in most gardens. The Perfect for Pollinators Badge this variety received ensures that the blossoms of the tree are cherished by bees and other pollinators.Staying compact even when fully established, Prunus Domestica Opal can grow to be 2.5 to 4 metres high and wide, its ultimate height depending on the rootstock.
