The intercooler is very important for forced induction tuning and HKS has developed new big type for GT1000 full turbine kit. Feature We have designed the intercooler for best balance of left-right bank cooling and pipe layout for the same as vertical flow stock design. The core front surface is maximum size as stock type layout. And the thickness of core is 100mm (stock=65mm) which provides less air flow pressure loss for the 1000ps. We have designed the intercooler layout design to be installed with the stock air guide (need some work). The air came in from the open bumper is all flowed into the core for the maximum cooling efficiency. S-Type Intercooler Kit GDB EJ20 A-D type For 184~320kw (250~450PS) light tuning car. Features Front mount intercooler kit with S-Type core for GDB IMPREZA. (Core size : 600 x 244 x 65). The intercooler core, buffing tank and pipes appeal the performance from front bumper. New S-type core was developed specially for GDB kit in order to improve response. Because front mount layout usually has a demerit of slow response. Pipe layout is designed as straight and short as possible. It enabled as quick boost response as stock intercooler. When a vehicle is stopped, stock top mount intercooler core keeps heat inside from the engine compartment and then, when the car starts, sometimes knocking occurs and engine is damaged. Front mount intercooler decreases intake air temperature (20 deg. C less than stock intercooler) and it enables safe and reliable tuning. About 7ps increases than stock intercooler (at boost 1.2kg/cm2) if only intercooler is replaced. It is difficult to increase horsepower of boost up vehicles, which has more than 320ps due to limited capacity of stock turbocharger. If turbocharger is upgraded as the next rows, the front intercooler will be more effective. Above graph shows air temperature inside intake manifold under maximum load with 5th gear. (Outside air temperature is 17 Deg. C.) The test car had a cooling duct. Even though, intake temperature increased as the cooling performance was not enough. On the other hand, S-type decreases 20 degree C against stock intercooler. Actually, S-type can decrease 40 deg. C against stock intercooler during actual driving.
