The Bunker Climate Atlas of the North Atlantic Ocean - H. J. Isemer - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

The Bunker Climate Atlas of the North Atlantic Ocean - H. J. Isemer - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

Marine Meteorology has a long tradition, and studies of surface meteorological conditions have been published repeatedly since the end of the last century. Recently, the demand has grown for more detailed descriptions. This stems both from the public''s interest in climatic change and from our growing ability to analyse atmospher ic and oceanic processes with the aid of numerical models. These models require input data on a regular, finely spaced grid; the increased amount of oceanic data available permits us to provide detailed charts both of surface meteorological conditions and of the air-sea interaction. The present climate atlas of the North Atlantic Ocean is based on data originally evaluated by Andrew F. Bunker of Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution. He analysed observations from the ships of the Voluntary Observing Fleet in many parts of the world oceans to calculate the various components of the heat budget at the air sea interface. When Bunker died in 1979, he left the major part of his data and results in an unpublished state. Since he had expended considerable effort to validate the data and calculate air-sea fluxes by the so-called "individual method" , it was considered worthwhile to make this unique set of climate data available to the scientific community. Bunker''s analysed fields for the North Atlantic Ocean are presented in this atlas. It deals with the surface climate of the North Atlantic Ocean from the equator to 65°N, in the period 1941 to 1972.

Supplier Relationship Management - Michael F. Strohmer - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

There’s a new buzz phrase in the air: Supplier Relationship Management (SRM). Corporate executives know it’s necessary, but there’s only one problem. Nobody yet knows how to do it. Or they think it’s all about bashing your vendors over the head until they reduce the price another 4%. Supplier Relationship Management: How to Maximize Vendor Value and Opportunity changes all that. Containing the best and most innovative advice from the operations and procurement experts at consultant AT Kearney, this book shows that SRM is at root a strategic discussion requiring cross-functional interaction and internal alignment at the highest levels. It requires an honest appraisal of the value that suppliers now bring to your firm, as well as their potential value. It then requires a frank and constructive business-to-business dialogue about how to improve the relationship. When this happens, a company reaps myriad benefits, ranging from new opportunity to added value to competitive advantage—and, quite likely, to overall (and sometimes substantial) cost reductions. This book shows the most concrete methods you can use today to: - Identify value-adding opportunities in the supply chain - Work closely with suppliers to maximize the benefits - Work the "Critical Cluster" of suppliers, where the greatest opportunity for advantage lies - Review suppliers to encourage constant gains in quality and cost - Turn your SRM strategy into a major competitive advantage Supplier Relationship Management introduces and explains the Supplier Interaction Model, a key tool that will help you get the most from your supplier relationships. It segments the supplier universe into nine categories, from those you want to run away from fast to those so good and so useful to your organization that it can make sense to invest in them directly. Numerous case studies show how to apply the principles to your situation. Supplier Relationship Management burns off the fog that has surrounded the procurement process for far too long. It is the definitive guide for business executives who want to get the maximum benefits from suppliers and gain very real advantages over competitors.

The Modern Lean Enterprise - Alexander Tsigkas - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG - Plusbog.dk

The book addresses a modern reorientation of Lean, abandoning the classical waste dogma that brings direct efficiency gains and substituting by a way to achieving indirect efficiency in a continuous and sustainable manner. Waste is the output of a process that cannot be of further use, while value is a matter of valuation, a process whose output we conceive to be of further use. Value and waste are not antithetical, they are just not comparable issues. We achieve added value to the modern Lean Enterprise through synergies that bring sustainable economic benefits to the company. Such synergies use the complementarity theory developed by Milgrom and Roberts in 1990 on the principle that we can achieve maximal gains via the joint investment on complement activities and not investing. Complementarity is not something specific to Lean Enterprises; however, Lean Enterprises can benefit the most from such a concept. The reason is that Lean uses the principle of achieving more with less effort. Less effort does not mean the use of fewer resources, but the use of resources in a complementary way in order to achieve more, rather than using them. Complementarity is a feature by design. Complementarity by design will help modern Lean companies have an easier transition in the digital era and the new world of Industry 4.0. In this second edition, we have preserved the method of how to achieve Lean and have enhanced it to show how to move towards modern Lean within Industry 4.0 paradigm. However, if a company has not yet made the Lean step, there is no need to make that step first before yielding the benefits. Technology is the key. Modern Lean Enterprise strengthens out of the old paradigm into the new one of Industry 4.0. Because of evolution, such an enterprise achieves optimal technological complementarity necessary for synergies that sustain increasing profits.

A Collaborative Approach to Financing Supply Chain Investments - Carolyn Somorowsky - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG -

A Collaborative Approach to Financing Supply Chain Investments - Carolyn Somorowsky - Bog - Springer-Verlag Berlin and Heidelberg GmbH & Co. KG -

Competitive advantage is not achieved by a single company, but rather by the entire supply chain, with a focus on improving the flow of information, finance and goods. Improving these flows requires strategic investments relevant to the supply chain that are often long-term, capital-intensive, relationship-specific, and therefore risky. The past financial or COVID-19 crisis has made banks more risk averse, making it more expensive for supply chain members to finance risky investments or even more difficult to raise funds from external financial institutions. Supply chain finance is a young discipline that focuses on improving financial flows through a collaborative approach. Since most strategic investments are made by suppliers facing financial constraints, there is a high likelihood that supply chain disruptions will occur because the financing party becomes insolvent, or the investments do not materialize. To encourage strategic investments and avoid supply chain disruptions, a model is developed in which supply chain members leverage their financial and operational capabilities to realize these investments and share costs, risks, and benefits according to their contribution. The proposed model is based on a structured coalition game with transferable utility that determines the supply chain members best able to finance the investments without compromising supply chain stability.

Communities of Practice as Vibrant Sources of Knowledge and Innovation within a Rigid Public Hierarchy - Andre Kreutzmann - Bog - Springer-Verlag

The concept of Communities of Practice is nowadays ''common parlance'' in the private and public sector. However, research concerning the potential and benefits of CoPs embedded in public organizations lacks behind. Consequently, it still remains vague whether informal CoPs are able to unfold their widely recognized potential in terms of knowledge creation and dissemination within the context of the public sector. To shed light on this issue, the author employs the German Federal Armed Forces as a research setting since it is an outstanding example for a supremely hierarchical public organization showing a high degree of formalization in structure and processes. The research at hand particularly focuses the entanglement of the formal organization with the informal CoPs. More specifically, the author was inspired by the interest in exploring which role these informal entities play in regard to the development of knowledge and innovations, thereby, possibly fostering the organizational knowledge management as well as the adaptability of a supremely hierarchical public organization. About the author André Kreutzmann prepared the dissertation at hand at the Institute of Technology and Innovation Management at the Helmut-Schmidt-University. As a member of a research project commissioned by the German Ministry of Defense, he investigated the potential of Communities of Practice in terms of knowledge management, innovation development, and organizational adaptation.
