Anniversary Song
Anniversary Song (Oh, how we danced on the night we were wed) was written by Al Jolson (1886-1950) and Saul Chaplin (1912-1997) in 1946, and quickly became a hit. It featured in The Jolson Story , a film about the singer’s life, and was later covered by Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby, among others. The original melody was actually written by the Romanian composer Iosif (Ion) Ivanovici (1845-1902) as a waltz in 1880, entitled Waves of the Danube . Debate rages as to whether the American songwriters correctly acknowledged him, but the fame of the song means that this is now the most popular Romanian tune ever written. This classic tune has been arranged here for Piano, Voice, and Guitar.
