Neu | The Circular Economy Handbook: Realizing the Circular Advantage | Lacy, Peter und Long, Jessica und Spindler, Wesley

Can we align global production and consumption systems with sustainability? Can business growth actually lead to a healthier planet? Can companies innovate through the circular economy to create competitive advantage and genuine impact? Waste to Wealth proved that the emerging circular economy advantage exists - now Lacy, Long and Spindler show you how to realize it at speed and scale in The Circular Economy Handbook. We stand at a crossroads, with rising geopolitical and geo-economic tensions, massive technological change and a host of social and environmental challenges. We are pushing planetary boundaries to their limits, with climate change and threats to biodiversity and oceans as just a few examples. Significant impacts are already being felt, and both people and planet face potentially catastrophic and irreversible consequences if we don't urgently change our global model and systems. Our current linear "take, make, waste" models of production and consumption will not be sustainable in a world of some 9 billion people by 2050, especially with ever-expanding rates of consumption. Thriving within these dynamics demands more than incremental adjustments to business-as-usual. The circular economy offers a powerful means to decouple growth from use of scarce and harmful resources, enabling greater production and consumption with fewer negative environmental impacts-at the same time, making companies more innovative and competitive. In fact, this book shows that $4.5 trillion in economic value is at stake. Delivering on the promise of a circular economy demands impact and scale, extending through value chains and, ultimately, disrupting the entire economic system. In The Circular Economy Handbook, the authors illuminate the path from insight to action, from linear to circular. With case studies, advice and practical guidance, they show leaders how to pivot towards a holistic circular organization, embedding circularity internally and delivering broad-based system change. With unique insights across business models, technologies, and industries - featuring stories and real-world examples from circular pioneers - this book is the essential guide to help companies become leaders in the movement to secure the circular economy advantage. von Lacy, Peter und Long, Jessica und Spindler, Wesley

Neu | From Linear to Circular Food Supply Chains | Despoudi, Stella und Dora, Manoj und Sivarajah, Uthayasankar

This book aims to provide the reader with an understanding of the concept of the circular economy, in relation to food supply chains. The current food supply chain system, based upon the linear supply chain model, is unquestionably unsustainable: make, use, dispose. The circular supply chain model, on the other hand, aims to keep resources in use for as long as possible, while regenerating products/materials at the end of their service life. In short: reduce, reuse, recycle. This book puts forwards the circular economy as an alternative to the traditional supply chain management models. The circular economy aims to minimise material, energy and environmental damage without restricting economic growth and social and technological progress. It involves transition to renewable energy sources, and it builds on economic, natural and social capital. This shortform monograph will appeal to academics working in the fields of supply chain logistics, operation management, agricultural management, and sustainability more broadly.Dr. Stella Despoudi is Lecturer in Operations and Supply Chain Management at Aston University, UK and Adjunct Lecturer in Supply Chain Management at University of Western Macedonia, Greece.Prof. Uthayasankar Sivarajah is Head of School of Management and Professor of Technology Management and Circular Economy at the School of Management, University of Bradford, UK.Dr Manoj Dora is Director of Collaborative Projects and Outreach at Brunel Business School, UK. Manoj's areas of specialisation are Sustainable Value Chain and Quality Management, with a focus on Lean Six Sigma in the agro-food sector. von Despoudi, Stella und Dora, Manoj und Sivarajah, Uthayasankar

Gebraucht | The Waste-Free World: How the Circular Economy Will Take Less, Make More, and Save the Planet | Gonen, Ron

How the next revolution in business will provide for a sustainable future. From founder, CEO and circular economy expert Ron Gonen. With an empowering call to action, The Waste-Free World boldly invites us to end one of the greatest scams in history in order to achieve a bright, sustainable, and prosperous future. As microplastics collect in the ocean by the ton, natural resources are depleted, and cities face mounting landfill disposal bills, consumers and investors are becoming increasingly focused on the quality, durability and environmental footprint of products-yet many industries continue to try to sell us cheap goods and tell us that recycling is too expensive. In The Waste-Free World, Ron Gonen argues that the old take-make-waste economy has cost us consumers and taxpayers billions while cheating us out of a habitable planet. But it doesn't have to be this way. The Waste-Free World reveals the secret history of wasteful consumption and makes a powerful case for transitioning to a Circular Economy-where companies foster innovation, investors recognize long term value creation and consumers are able to align their values with the products they buy. Drawing from his experience as a recycling entrepreneur, public official, and Co-Founder and CEO of a firm investing in scaling the Circular Economy, Gonen showcases brilliant innovations worldwide, introducing us to the entrepreneurs and business leaders that are maximizing value by aligning the interests of customers, shareholders, and our environment. von Gonen, Ron

Neu | Galois Groups over ? | Ihara, Y. und Serre, J-P. und Ribet, Kenneth

This volume is the offspring of a week-long workshop on "Galois groups over Q and related topics," which was held at the Mathematical Sciences Research Institute during the week March 23-27, 1987. The organizing committee consisted of Kenneth Ribet (chairman), Yasutaka Ihara, and Jean-Pierre Serre. The conference focused on three principal themes: 1. Extensions of Q with finite simple Galois groups. 2. Galois actions on fundamental groups, nilpotent extensions of Q arising from Fermat curves, and the interplay between Gauss sums and cyclotomic units. 3. Representations of Gal(Q/Q) with values in GL(2)j deformations and connections with modular forms. Here is a summary of the conference program: . G. Anderson: "Gauss sums, circular units and the simplex" . G. Anderson and Y. Ihara: "Galois actions on 11"1 ( ... ) and higher circular units" . D. Blasius: "Maass forms and Galois representations" . P. Deligne: "Galois action on 1I"1(P-{0, 1, oo}) and Hodge analogue" . W. Feit: "Some Galois groups over number fields" . Y. Ihara: "Arithmetic aspect of Galois actions on 1I"1(P - {O, 1, oo})" - survey talk . U. Jannsen: "Galois cohomology of i-adic representations" . B. Matzat: - "Rationality criteria for Galois extensions" - "How to construct polynomials with Galois group Mll over Q" . B. Mazur: "Deforming GL(2) Galois representations" . K. Ribet: "Lowering the level of modular representations of Gal( Q/ Q)" . J-P. Serre: - Introductory Lecture - "Degree 2 modular representations of Gal(Q/Q)" . Shift your business model and transform your organization in the face of disruption Business Model Shifts is co-authored by Patrick van Der Pijl, producer of the global bestseller Business Model Generation, and offers a groundbreaking look at the challenging times in which we live, and the real-world solutions needed to conquer the obstacles organizations must now face. Business Model Shifts is a visually stunning guide that examines six fundamental disruptions happening now and spotlights the opportunities that they present: * The Services Shift: the move from products to services * The Stakeholder Shift: the move from an exclusive shareholder orientation to creating value for all stakeholders, including employees and society * The Digital Shift: the move from traditional business operations to 24/7 connection to customers and their needs * The Platform Shift: the move from trying to serve everyone, to connecting people who can exchange value on a proprietary platform * The Exponential Shift: the move from seeking incremental growth to an exponential mindset that seeks 10x growth * The Circular Shift: the move from take-make-dispose towards restorative, regenerative, and circular value creation Filled with case studies, stories, and in-depth analysis based on the work of hundreds of the world's largest and most intriguing organizations, Business Model Shifts details how these organizations created their own business model shifts in order to create more customer value, and ultimately, a stronger, more competitive business.
